I took my little used Pentax DA 50-200 ED WR for an outing around Prince Charles' Poundbury "village" on the East side of Dorchester. Maybe not the first choice of lens for this environment but I wanted to see what I could do with it. All in all, I'm happy that the money I spent buying this lens second hand from LCE was reasonably well spent. All taken with my K-5ii and the 50-200.

Thanks for the comments folks.
I didn't take any wider views Nigel. When I bought my camera with a standard zoom lens last year, I was worried that the lens might not have enough reach, especially for an upcoming cruise to Norway, and so I bought the 50-200. In the event, I used the longer lens only once in 6 months. Following some mixed comments in this forum on this lens recently, my new year project is to use it in a range of different situations to see what I can get out of it. I wasn't really looking for wide angle opportunities, therefore.
You are right about the horizon, Philip. I had the level indicator switched on, too. I do find that the indication in the viewfinder isn't very sensitive around horizontal - I can be a degree or two off before I get an indication. That will teach me to put the camera on a tripod so that I can see the rather better level indication on the rear lcd.
Dorset is always open to holidaymakers, Jo. You will always be welcome.

St Catherine's chapel overlooks Abbotsbury on the Dorset coast. I was very disappointed when I arrived to take this shot at the amount of haze over the sea. However, I did shoot a couple of images which have been immensely improved by the haze removal facility introduced in Photoshop Elements 14.

Hello Sam,

Exactly that - discord versus harmony. My inclination is usually towards harmony but I accept that some folks will be attracted by challenge. I look forward to seeing your future attempts at the painterly technique - and I might even have a go myself.

Best wishes,

Mike

Hello Sam,
Your ICM images are interesting. No 4 seems to have horizontal movement imposed on a primarily vertical subject and doesn’t really work for me. No 5, however, is stunning! I would be proud to hang that one on my wall if I had taken it.
Best wishes,
Mike

Merry Christmas Gywn and best wishes to all on this forum for 2016. One of the nicer hobbies photography, we look out at our world and try to capture it at its best, mostly. I can't promise to personally be photogenic though
Snap (if that's not a rude word in these circles). A very happy Christmas to you all.

Welcome from thirty miles long the coast. I too returned to Pentax with a K-5 after years of other makes and types since giving up my ME Super. I'm very much still on the learning curve and enjoying every minute of it. Look forward to seeing your work in due course.

Best wishes,

Mike

Looks like it was a busy day around Poole harbour, Nigel.

Absolutely right, Nigel. You might have seen my photograph of Mudeford at dusk in the gallery which illustrates your point so well.
Dorset will still be here for you, Nigel M, at any time of the year.
