I was there a couple of weeks ago, Nigel, but the mist didn't clear all day so I didn't even get my camera out of its bag.

I've mostly seen the Purbeck area in its summer glory ... Most years we've been in July or August there has been a prolonged fine spell. ... I'm convinced there's some sort of microclimate going on around Studland! I would like to visit at different times of the year though, just for the differing lighting and atmosphere. I envy you who live near ... There's another Nigel, 'Stridey' who's also lucky!

We certainly feel blessed to live in this neck of the woods with its scope for walking, and photographing, in beautiful surroundings.

I agree - very lucky to live here. The Jurassic Coast is a marvelous photo opportunity, at so many locations. And two distinct advantages at this time of the year - a) not so many tourists and b) the sun now sets at an angle to highlight the southern coast for the next few months !

Absolutely right, Nigel. You might have seen my photograph of Mudeford at dusk in the gallery which illustrates your point so well.
Dorset will still be here for you, Nigel M, at any time of the year.

Thanks John . It's well worth spending some time around Purbeck .... There are loads of good locations ...
Swanage, Kinmeridge, Corfe Castle, Lulworth Castle and the walking areas in the military ranges, Wareham and the inner Poole Harbour areas, Brownsea Island and the ferry trips, Studland and the Knoll Beaches, Old Harry Rocks, the Purbeck Hills ..... And all within a short drive of each other!

These two images were taken from almost the same spot with the same camera and lens (K7 & SMC F35-70mm), and they show the strong effects of the sun direction, even mid-morning in summer, on tone and textures. The two photos are essentially opposite views by 180deg.
