Brilliant deductive work. for what it's worth I have an energizer battery charger that was inexpensive, and charges each cell independantlty. I think it was like $30.00 can at Walmart. and $14.00/4 2500mah baterries.
one led for each cell and I always mark my batterries with a marker to keep them as "sets".

Before Christmas, we had a thread going about building remote triggers for our dslrs and I mentioned something about breaking balloons. Here's a sample on the Photo blog section of my website.

Ps. Who do I talk to about getting permission to add a link to this site?

There are definitely different levels of expectation from different levels of cost.
I remember a situation in the Mental hospital where one of our patients, got started on some new meds, and the patients Mother started reporting back dramatic improvements within a couple days. This teenaged patient could not have felt the effects so fast, and a background check revealed many illnesses, injurys and problems over his lifetime, causing us to look at the possibility of Munchaussen by proxie...in other words She felt a placeobo effect from us putting him on meds.
my point?
With different expectations sometimes come different perceptions. There are some tests that show alot of less expensive lenses out performing thier expensive Pro counterparts...Pentaxs 28-70 f4 being a good example. But it won't get you to f2.8...more expensive isn't always better image quality, but often better build quality and more versatility. depends what you need.

QD...Quartz databack...Does it have its' own battery? Could that be the cause? is everything else working or is it dead? could be broken/loose contact inside the camera?

I see a lot of pride and brand loyalty in these threads. Also alot of complaining about marketing and market share. I've even had a rant or two myself. So what r we going to do about it?
If we don't like thier marketing materials, why don't we send them a sample of how we can do it better....

I admire your inginuity. Good workmanship (may I suggest using a sheet of plexi instead of particle board?). Imagine the fun one could have with a cokin filterholder mounted to each light.
I've found using metal dryer ducting and my studio lights works A OK in studio for me, and have been using flashlight for focus assist when using ring light for macro.
I am considering using small battery powered florescent lamps or video lights for location/low light work.

Best way to predict future behaviour is to analyze past behaviour, looking for patterns.
My guess would be Pentax will get thier new 10 mp slr out late, and after other companies get thier 12-18mp slrs out in the same price range in a year or two......
A string of minor bug fixes passed off as new models a la ds - ds2, dl - dl2....
and down ward enginerring to justify price slashing whilst attempting to not alienate recent customers......

Don't get me wrong I'm buying one and am hopeful they prove me wrong....

I almost bought a canon rubble because of confusion with the flashes. here's my experiance:
My ftz500 flash unit needs a -1.7 ev adjustment set on the ds2 to work properly. my pentax ringflash owrks fine.

I had the dl and the ds2 side by side and the dl does not work with the ftz 500 or the ringflash, (blasting away at full power).

Needles to say the canon didn't work any better than the dl.
