there a (often gold colored) cd-rs that are sold as archival..think 20 or so years.
I burn a dvd back-up and keep the hard drives. Yes I keep hard drives. they are the cheapest, per/megabite storage period. kept in an off site fire safe, and the dvds in a safe deposit box at the bank.
I use external drive enclosures and swap drives when they get full.
that means I'll have to put a retired computer(plus software) into storage, so I'll have equipment to read the drive in the future, when something completely new comes along and I'll need to move the data.
That logic would apply to ANY file format. I look at it this way there was lots of room on a 60 gig drive to move the files from an older 8 gig drive. There was lots of room to move the files from a 60 gig drive to one of my newer 300 gig drives. There'll be room ffor the data on my 300 gig drives when the newer 80 terabite hologram laser storage devices get invented.
My guess is sometime in the next five to ten years I'll have to transfer the files.

do some research. write down 5 questions you'd like to ask. (write down 2 intelligent sounding questions you know the answer to, and three dumb sounding questions, two you know the answer to and one you'd like to know.
Ask the questions in reverse order I've listed there, and if you get ANY disrespect, condesention, or B.S. Buy it somewhere else.
I think the pentax bodies will hold thier value better than the comparable canonikons because of build quality, backward compatibility and supply/demand issues.
I had similar experiances to snap. I didn't buy from that store. I did talk to the rep the next time I was in. I asked that sales rep why he was working at a retail chain store. He answered that he wanted to be a pro photographer. I showed him my portfolio, he was impressed. I showed him my istds2 that I bought from a smaller store for more money...told him that I bought it from somebody that didn't try to fool me. Suggested that if one follows the crowd, one cannot stand out from the crowd.
He accused me of wasting his time, said he works on commision.
I wasn't wasting his time, I was giving him mine. I was trying to help him improve. I walked out of that store and went to the same small camera store that sold me my camera and bought my 10-17mm fisheye.
Speak with your mouth...vote with your wallet.

PS. The bit about albinism comes about from the work I’m involved in here in Cameroon and from which I take my moniker – if your interested take a look at http://www.promhandicam.org/23800/index.html
more accurate for me to have said many instead of all right?
My information comes from having met an albino a long time ago when i was in fostercare. His eyes were pale blue. I remeber something about scar tissue in the retinas and cornia.
You'd know more than me though....I got twenty odd years to fog my memory from that experiance.

A) lack if melonin- albinoism (I'd like to figure out how the albino in the davinchi code could've been driving at night or shooting people, as all albinos are vision severely impared to clinically blind as a result of the condition).
b) flash bouncing off the retina back to the lens.....long lenses plus low light, flash too close to the lens.
