Unless the poster is going to be shooting sports, birds, or High Fashion, there is no good reason to switch brands.
Yeah there's issues with the firmware that prohibit you from photographing

to avoid confusion, as there is some differences between what's available overseas and here, my request was to find out what he needed, that he can't find in the current lineup, or has this fellow fallen victim to sales reps pushing of canon/nikon cameras.
I only mentioned ds2 as it's what I use. Happily.

I'm curious what features you need that are beyond the ds2?

That settles it then....I'm gonna have to hang up the "Out of Business" sign.
Maybe I'll go join a cult.
I heard about this groups of crazed zealots based primarily outa' Japan called the "Pentaxians"....
I think they await a mothership to bring them new technology...which they'll use to take over the world....
Nah...
My business is doing just fine.
Just hand me another stone and tell Goliath to back the F**** off.

hate to have to disagree with you SPB...
but...
istd seems to work with aperture but others need a hack to a plist file to get recognized.
ist dl seems to work with Iphoto6 but ds2 definately does not.
I've tried it on an Emac g4, an Imac g5 and a macbook intel, all with latest version of tiger and iphoto6 and I am positive my ds2 pef's won't import. I'm pretty sure only the dl is supported
:0(
since your a machead, did you know there's a plist file ({your mac hd}/library/preferences/com.apple.iWork06.plist) that you can delete (evry 29 dayz) to keep your trial version of iWork 06 renewing itself forever...as in Don't Buy it!

well I guess I spent too much time typing....my little one has demonstrated some impressive, promising artistic talent...I question his choice in chocolate pudding as a medium and his descision to use my dining room wall as a canvas...but the abstract work itself would impress Pablo Picasso.

I agree that the edge in quality prints will remain in dedicated still image equipment, but liken it to the mac vs pc debate...

marketshare matters and I predict the market for first time buyers, and casual users will lean heavily towards All-in-wONEder imaging appliances.

That trend in turn, will negatively affect sales as many clients who want both stills and video will probably forgo hiring both, or look for a service offering both. If I was getting married and wanted both, I'd have to a) hire a still photographer and get no video, or b), hire a digital videographer, who can make acceptable print off video for me.

I hope for an slr that has the ability to process it's own raw files better... (fully programable set up as custom functions) (processed and sharpened the same way I'd do it on my mac, done way I like). That coupled with software on my mac that'll record all the alterations I've done on one version of the file (say for example the jpeg in srgb for web/dvd) and apply them to the other (eg raw in adobe rgb for print) file when needed (like when i click print).

in other words adobe lightroom/apple aperture are a step in the right direction, but what's lacking is a camera with enough processor to handle transfering capture ones duties to a custom function in the camera.

negating one step in the workflow.

I look at what my jpeg file looks like After processing and sharpening, and think that I usually follow the same steps, with usual settings, with the same software, and ask: "why the heck can't the camera process my jpegs like that?".
I go to a restaraunt and order a burger, I don't expect to be handed a lump of raw ground beef some dough and a pickle....

otherwise guys like me who need web, print, dvd, keynote workflows will find the raw/adobeRGB too cumbersome or time consuming.

I use raw for maybe 10% of my work.

I'm interested in seeing your wedding shots. I am interested in learning about raw workflows for Mac....I primarily shoot jpegs....but just like with digital( a few years back), I'd rather learn it in case I need to switch later on.

ps I see digital camcorders taking 4-5 mp stills....I'm really working hard on digital video stuff....It's gonna be hard for my competitors to make a sale next year, unless of course I'm already booked.
Prints, books, multimedia DVD, and a traditional leather album, for a price that is forced low due to our big fish in a small (mostly hillbilly, red-necks, out in the middle of nowhere) pond, marketplace.

I for one believe you on the math, (but I'm also dyslexic with only gr 8 education). Having read all the good advice you give, and having seen your stuff on Ephotozine, I'd say the odds(which I've allways been incapable of calculating) favour you being right.
