a little chromatic aberation (ca)is normal with digital.
you'll notice it in high contrast areas of your images. ie green leaves against an overexposed sky....or in your case, bright overexposed highlight against a dark pupil. different colors of light have different wavelengths and will bend through glass at different angles. the effect is that different colors of light will focus at different distances from the sensor plane. this results in colored halos. it's normal. somes lenses will control it better than others, but lighting can control it also.
here's an example of how to avoid that in a similar shot:

Notice how I've avoided ca by using a larger, more diffused lightsource, closer to the eye.
now granted, I've still got alot of work to do to clean up the red party lines, and the skin tones.

I see a slight amount of ca around the flash's highlight in the reflection of the pupil.
the overall color balance seems ok, though.

Wouldn't it be nice if the pentax software synched the date and time with your pc and you had the option of stamping a watermark to your images when using the in-camera raw processing.....?

That said, all the XP machines I look after and use have been exceptionally stable. Mostly down to using the right apps and tools
But isn't it nice to know that you've got your choice of thousands of apps that don't work, while we macheads only get to choose from a handful of apps that actually do work. Gues it all boils down to choices!

Just like Pentax can't shake up the "Pentax don't do Pro Cameras" sales clerks, and reviewers, Apple can't shake off the "macs are too expensive" myth.

I wonder, does the fuji not have a mechanical shutter, or does it have aleaf type shutter in the lens?

have you looked at the edge of the card for the write protect switch?
you may have accidently locked it on inserting it to your camera.

I've had no problems using newer lenses on k1ooo's, super programs, etc.
as long as the lens has a focus ring and an aperture ring on it, it'll behave like a manual lens. (I've in school, this year used my 28-200, 28-70, 400mm, on older bodies with no probs.)
