I was going to disagree at first as Mac owners are paying twice as much for the same hardware as a PC and not getting anything much better (BTW, I don't have an OS preference, I'd Tripple boot XP, Ubuntu and OSX if I could to get the benefits of all whenever I wanted).

But, that article is the first I've seen that has been very positive.

Maybe mac owners are smarter that I'd previously thought.

Well apple have finally cottoned on to the fact that people want 1920x1200 screens on their notebooks. Although they still have not cottoned on to the fact that you can get them for £999 with higher specs than their £2500 machines.

I love Macs, they're just too damn expensive.

Just like Pentax can't shake up the "Pentax don't do Pro Cameras" sales clerks, and reviewers, Apple can't shake off the "macs are too expensive" myth.

You can get cheaper macs, but even then they don't come close to a PC (not necessarily Windows based) for speed. Prices vary across the range, but when I speced up a new 17" Macbook Pro to match my current machine it came up at more than my current machine was new. In terms of performance specification is identical and my machine was around over 16 months before the Mac (yes it is also a notebook). They are not what I'd call value of money at all, especially with the software and hardware limitations.

This debate could go on for a very long time, people can get whatever they like and more importantly need.

Just to say that in my own experience paper spec often means very little and very often real world performance can be startlingly different. If you start comparing machines of such different 'temperaments' just on paper specs then you are missing the point all together.

The PC and microsoft operating system environment is a very fragile one. I am sure many people have had system crashes, software problems, losses of data etc. Some people have problems on a daily basis, especially with the internet.

A friend of mine is a very computer 'savvy' guy and works in the IT world. He has about three PC's at home which are networked. He had such problems with the fragility of the PC & microsoft 'world' that he bought a Mac.

Overnight his problems went. He wished he had had one years ago. He has no issues with speed and has little issues with software, despite what the so-called specs say.....

Or there's Ubuntu Linux (and Win4Lin or VMWorkstation that will allow genuine Windows stuff too).

Wishing I didn't have such a lot of Microsoft-only stuff that I have to use

That said, all the XP machines I look after and use have been exceptionally stable. Mostly down to using the right apps and tools
