in camera processing is handy, when you don't get to a computer with raw conversion, and need a print..eg at the photofinishers...
also in the feild when shooting, images you intend to manipulate...like showing a customer how the image should look when you're printing black and white.
face detection basically is an extension of multisegment metering, and the program mode, where the software recognizes faces in the image area and adjusts exposure, color balance, and aperture (dof) to get the best shot of the people in the scene.

Also true that there's an awful lot of people out there, that are very likely to hurt themselves if they ever try thinking....

I will have to respectfully disagree with part of what you say....
Adding face detection may add complexity to the chip designer, but is really a software issue, and may not add much to the development cost of firmware for a new design on a camera in the development phase, if the new computer chips are able to handle the processing.
Having two very similar video cameras, one with and one without, there is no real difference in actual use, from the user end, and it does work. (saves time in some situations, that would other wise call for input from me.)
nobody could, or should argue with your logic on that second point.
on that third pont, I had cleaning supplies and a tripod from my ds2 days, and got along just fine.
But since those options are available, I do use them when needed.
so would I pay more for, or choose one model over another to get face detection? No.
would I turn my nose up and refuse a good model cause I don't want face detection? no

But then again, you and I know how to use our cameras don't we?
somebody buying thier first dslr, might feel diferently.

did you get the tablet new?
I'm asking because for as long as I can remember those tablets came with a disc that had some brushes, corel painter2, and Photoshop Elements....
which leads me to wonder....why bother with Gimp at all?

Sounds to me like you need to get a tune up (better be under warrenty) from pentax!

I don't know about everyone else, but I've been trying to work on limiting my internet addiction....it's too cold to focus on my motorcycle addiction, and a slow down in work, combined with some health issues, have kept me from my work addiction, so I have decided to pour some effort into my alcohol addiction.
Will get back into my photography addiction after the holidays!
