I'm afraid I simply don't believe that an EVF will equal an optical viewfinder (even a Pentamirror one) in the foreseeable future.

The pixels are going to need to get a couple of orders of magnitude smaller and the refresh times a couple of orders faster, all this while making the image brighter.

I'm a great believer in technology, and I believe it will happen eventually, but if eventually is this side of 2050 I'll be very impressed

(I stand ready to be impressed, come on Pentax, Samsung, Oly, Panasonic, I dare you to impress me if you can!!)
the technology is already there...look at video cameras, pro video cameras....the only thing holding it back is this, the lcds they're using are about the size of the lcd on the back of your dslrs... prosumer video cameras are almost there right now, my sony sr12 is actually very good even with many moving subjects.

I'd say were two to three years away, from a camera like the casio efx1 with interchangeable lenses...

Well I don't know about generations, but proper pentaprism finders are very superior to EVFs. You can't judge manual focus on an EVF and the slow response time means that following action is almost impossible.

If you want to see a really good viewfinder have a look through a Voigtlander Bessamatic - it's useless for focusing but the aerial viewfinder image is just staggering!
You are right today. tomorrow you will be wrong. They just keep getting better and are far superior for low light and macro.
When they get a little faster they will rule.

having used video cameras, slrs and evfs, I'm sure there will be a convergence into a do it all super camera, and hopefully soon

if the new pentax has a square (aps squared, ff or anywhere in between) and high def video then I'm buying one.

Congrats.....
I have twin girls (now 15).
I remember when they were three, and my girls were trying to get dressed, and my one daughter had her left shoe on her right foot, and right shoe on her left foot.

I told her "Honey, you've got your shoes on the wrong feet" ...

So she takes them off and hands them to her sister......

having a square sensor and an optional 16x9 (or other standard crops) live wireframe (in live view) mode that allows you to use the rocker switch on the back of the camera to set "Crop" box that the software would use on processing the raw files would be nice. then you move the red box to the area in the lcd and shoot knowing whats in the red wireframe is how the software will crop on import to computer.... but still save the square raw file if you change your mind later......

If I put the old Cessna in a vertical nose dive, the acceleration will put your bike to shame.
I think we're gonna have to try that to be sure, this summer, when we come visiting you and Mac...

Terje-l and Roscoe...

Soft compound winter tires...they are great on trucks, but impossible to find for sportbikes...sadly.

We don't call them "dubbed tires"....we call them studded. they're illegal (due to damage on road surfaces) in most of Canada. You can't buy em for motorcycles. But many ice racers make thier own by drilling knobby tires and screwing in screws or bolts and filing the ends sharp....sadly there isn't enough rubber in a sportbike tire to hold anything like that in.

I'll just have to wait another month....

depends on what and how you use it.
A grey card might suffice...
A change in how you use/interpet your cameras readings might do it, or you may want to get another handheld.

I use all three techniques depending on my needs.

That is tragic.
I remember working for the ministry of natural resources in northern ontario back in the late eighties, during a particularly bad forrest fire season.
We had US reserves and alsaka smoke jumpers, and fire fighters from all over Canada working there. 1000's of firefighters.
We had three hundred in our base camp (originally lookout camp built for eight) it was like a tent city.
I came up with an idea to run a construction heater into an unused refer truck to create an industrial sized boot dryer (dry boots cut our injury/lost hour rates by 2/3 just by keeping peoples feet dry believe it or not).
We saved a few cottages, no civillian life loss. I don't recall any deaths actually...

Sad to say, but eight years later, some of the tracts of forrest we saved got handed over to logging companies.

to the tune of about 70%.
They spent billions of tax dollars to save logs for rich logging companies.

anyways I get how bad the fires can get, and it is hard to imagine how many lives were devestated and lost down there....

just don't attach a ricoh hose fitting to it, the locking pins aren't compatible and it won't come off...
