I think Clarky lives in the North where the floods are and the fires are in the south.
Pity they cant pipe the flood water down to the south.

Clarky lives near Sydney.
I believe there are some members from Victoria though.
I have been thinking a lot about all those poor people there, first the heat wave and then the fires.
Up north they have floods and crocodile warnings.
A friend who lives in Perth has a daughter living in somewhere in Victoria who has been hit by the fires. She and her family are safe though thank goodness. They manage to evacuate before the fire got to their township. A neighbour who stayed, and lost his own house, saved theirs.

Thanks for your concerns, but I am quite safe in Sydney. As you say The floods are in the north in Queensland and the fires are south in Victoria, i'm in the middle.
Terrible tradegy in Vic, so many deaths I really can't believe its happening. Whole townships are gone
This is one of the weirdest, hottest, and wettest summers on record.

I speak for all Aussies in thanking you for your prayers and wishes.
The 23 fires are easing somewhat but it won't take much for them to flare up again, I just hope this rain we are getting in Sydney makes its way south very quickly.
$45million raised so far for the bush fire appeal but unfortunately it won't bring back the 180 people killed

That is tragic.
I remember working for the ministry of natural resources in northern ontario back in the late eighties, during a particularly bad forrest fire season.
We had US reserves and alsaka smoke jumpers, and fire fighters from all over Canada working there. 1000's of firefighters.
We had three hundred in our base camp (originally lookout camp built for eight) it was like a tent city.
I came up with an idea to run a construction heater into an unused refer truck to create an industrial sized boot dryer (dry boots cut our injury/lost hour rates by 2/3 just by keeping peoples feet dry believe it or not).
We saved a few cottages, no civillian life loss. I don't recall any deaths actually...
Sad to say, but eight years later, some of the tracts of forrest we saved got handed over to logging companies.
to the tune of about 70%.
They spent billions of tax dollars to save logs for rich logging companies.
anyways I get how bad the fires can get, and it is hard to imagine how many lives were devestated and lost down there....

I have friends in California who were evacuated along with all their town in the bad fires there a couple of years ago. It is the terrible side of nature, both Mother and Human
I did read today that Leonard Cohen, that great Canadian, has donated a large sum of money to the bush fire appeal. All the more noteworthy since he only started performing again after his manager ran off with all his pension fund, and he was left broke.
