No decent Canon forums around then Tel?

What's the betting you go for a K-7 in the not too distant future?
Dunno why you are laughing .. your own son moved to Canon
You're right there, but I'll get my own back one day. Just think of all my Pentax gear he'll have to get rid of when I slip off the dish.
No problem there then, Just leave it to me, unless I slip of the dish first.
Ps my spelling is bad, but Tel, this is how to spell broad [/quote]I don't like that word anyways..every time I use it I get slapped.

Probably stating the obvious, but it seems to me that a price increase across the board and launching a very expensive new product whilst discontinuing their reasonably priced mid-range product at the same time isn't exactly the smart thing for Pentax to do in the current economic climate.
The K200D has also been discontinued and by Xmas I bet we will see a trimmed down K-7 as a replacement for both these models. As for other price rises I suppose people will still keep buying lenses and a small profit on a high price is better than a loss on a low price.
No matter what the economic climate if you are making a loss due to the increase in costs and fluctuation in currency you aren't going to be around long unless your increase prices.

I still think they should do the K-7 as a loss leader to get people interested in Pentax again though
easy enough to lower prices if it doesn't sell...in fact, being electronics, they will have to lower the price later anyways...BUT...if they start off too low, they can't very well raise the prices without getting called a rip off......

I passed on the k20, (I consider this to be mkII on the k20 sensor) but the the k7 seems like it'll be worth it...I will test drive one asap, then see how the video works into my workflow/software, and if it works out ok, I'll bite in july/august....

I do both

The way I see it, we as photographers all get the notion of capturing a perfect moment, even in the midst of kaos.... a still image can burn itself into your psyche and affect you long after the moment is gone...

Video captures more... a photo of a person holding a mic tell you they were speaking... but the video tells you what they said. Sometimes what was said is more important.

So a Combination of video to record an event, and stills to bring forth and emphasize the important moments, brings you the best of both.

The age of Desktop Video is upon us. Just as the digital darkroom changed the way photographers did things, the ability to shoot, edit and distribute high quality video is changing things for video and motion pictures....

The lines between photo and video are disappearing, and the new breed of top pros are gonna need to be good at both.

Its all pretty much the same as earlier spec guides.

1/180th sync - yet someone who worked with Pentax claimed it was going to be higher.

New processing engine.
4 stop SR.
3 inch LCD.

Doesnt seem to be anything we werent already expecting.
it is still possible that the camera can lock up the shutter at a slower shutter speed, and stop down the iris, usinf the lens aperture as a leaf stop shutter... with having the ability, to adjust the aperture while rcording video, it wouldn't be a stretch to make the leaf shuuer function work with flash......of course you'd want an easy acces button on the body to make that work.. sort of a new symbol that shows both the traditional focal plane shutter and an open leaf shutter....wonder whar that'd look like...

leaf shutter function with all NEW lense.....flash sync at all speeds....

(actually looks photoshopped around the flash...).
no idiot would've cut the top off the flash by accident...
look at those two images carefully and it looks like there is room across the top of the flash for a row of l.e.d. video lights......
I'd say it definately gotz video lights and I'm betting that l.e.d. on the body near the shutter release is in fact an infra red led af assist light for the af for video and low light.

I was just thinking, a dangerous thing I know, that the need for many photographers to actually know about photography is reducung day by day as we watch.

Let's take a portrait. We could set a low ISO, a wide aperture, soften the contrast, all the things that help a portrait, or we could push the "Portrait" button and the camera will do all these things for us.

Do we need to know what it's doing (unless we design cameras) and do we lose anything by not knowing? Does it matter or is the final stunning portrait the only thing that does?
I got this far not knowing anything...

seriously....

everybody talks, and you wish most would stop, but occasionally find yourself willing to pay to hear a speaker that has something intelligent to say...hmmn.

If everybody uses the "auto" setting and goes around mindlessly clicking snapshots, eventually a robot will come along and do it better.... eventually everybodies images will look too similar... and eventually a person will come along and decide to be different... and switch it off "Auto"

Well the good news for pentax is this: some people thought the k20 wasn't enough to give up thier k10's...
but I'm one camera test away form doing just that...
if the video works well in final cut, I'll be grabbing one for sure...
with stills, I'll just have to shoot dng format until Apple releases an updated Aperture, which I'm sure is going to have some kind of system wide integration with the new video files recent dslrs are producing!
