Yes, I have seen, and to be honest I reckon that's a fair price given that they are built to order and are not going to be exactly flying off the shelf.
Added to that, the Pentax replacement screens that they do are in the order of £35 (IIRC), so there's not a huge difference.

Finally, as I said, I also seem to remember they play havoc with spot metering, because, you see, the metering is read off the screen. Probably because of that Pentax don't make them... and also the fact that Katz Eyes already do
Katz Eye website wrote:
Spot Metering Mode: Our testing showed spot metering mode to be within factory tolerance for all AF lenses having a maximum aperture of f2.0 or larger (lower f number). Lenses having a maximum aperture smaller than f2.0 (lager f number) will show a significant shift toward increased exposure, with the shift increasing for lenses with smaller maximum apertures. Spot metering mode is NOT RECOMMENDED when using a split prism focusing screen with lenses slower than f2.0. However, if spot mode must be used, it is strongly advised to first take a test shot, check the histogram, and adjust exposure compensation as required.
There's a few Katz Eye users on the forum here and they've given glowing reports, even considering the price

And the fact that KatzEye are suggesting modification to the exposure settings for large aperture lenses is good: you can set up a user exposure mode for the lens you would use, ready for when you use it.

I hear what you're saying, but I think they were always on the map albeit perhaps in a quietly confident way.

You got that zoom lens at an amazing price. Well done!

Some nice bits there.

When's the dSLR arriving?

A useful and informative discussion, chaps.

I have plenty of 35mm Pentax equipment, and was at first thinking about the K10D (which would have made perfect sense for somebody wanting to move into dSLRs).

However, the DPReview put me off slightly with its obsession with edge definition and the pro-Canon 400D argument. My reaction to that was to consider the Nikon D80, and I started to consider that model very seriously.

But then common sense (and my gut feeling) took over and I researched the K10D more fully, downloading RAW and JPG images from an assortment of websites and inspecting them closely. I found that I actually liked the slight softness of edge definition, and somebody just mentioned that it was "film like" (which it is).

So, I'm back on the Pentax K10D again. Once I've got the necessary funds I'll get the basic kit (18-55 zoom and battery grip) and go from there.

My 35mm format f1.4 standard lens would become a fine portrait lens.

Hi there,

I bought my wife one of these wonderful 35mm autofocus (auto everything) compacts a few years ago, and while in service it gave her 99% fantastic results. Not bad.

But the other day, I picked it up to take a snap in the garden and I noticed the lens was open. Occasionally it has been left switched ON, so I switched it off and on again (a kind of subconscious "reset" operation).

However, instead of opening again, the lens cover stayed closed and the camera did not work.

I told my wife and she said she'd noticed something about it on the way home after we'd been out, but couldn't remember exactly what the issue was.

Anyway, has anyone else had one of these cameras go wrong in this way? All we see now is the pair of hypen (-) segments for the film counter flash in the display when we switch it on.

I have put it into a camera shop for a repair estimate, and now we have fingers crossed.

This is my first post on this forum.

The F3 was one of the professionals' tools of choice in times gone by, and is a good tool at that. As is the LX.

I hope your two get along, and complement (and compliment) each other.

Like George, I once had a fancy for an LX, but didn't buy one due to the cost. They are getting a little old now, and the sticky mirror syndrome fills me with fear.

Perhaps I lack the courage to get one, or perhaps the lure of the K10D is a stronger reason to hold on to what little money I currently have.

Hi Mac,

My wife and I have an older Optio S4, and that model has a rechargeable (removable for recharging) battery which, on a good day, lasts the day. This is probably due to the flash requiring energy for its impressively rapid recycling time.

In any case, for your model I would recommend a rechargeable Lithium-Ion cell. The Kodak CR-V3 (3.0V, 1400mAh) cell is the one you need. Alkaline cells, apart from being one-offs (thrown away when dead), are useful as backup but I wouldn't use them all the time due to the prospective cost.

In 1980, I researched and thought and thought and researched, asked advice and eventually spent my hard-saved pocket money on an MX. The other model I had considered was the K1000.

I had handled both in shops for weeks (while waiting for my funds to be sufficient) and personally preferred the MX.

Super cameras. I learned the principles of SLR photography via mine, it is my backup camera to my Super A (another great 35mm Pentax SLR).

I hope you get the one you want, and I hope it gives you the faultless service I have enjoyed from mine. They are popping up on Ebay (if you dare) and in camera shops all over the country now, you'll find a good one for £100. I paid a little more than that when I bought mine!
