Sorry to bother again...
What's the difference between-
Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM
Tamron A16 SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF). I saw this one for €265. Which I think is a good price (total guess)

I was going to buy it from Simply Electronics (http://www.simplyelectronics.net) but did a quick google search and they seem a bit dodgy....
Back to the hunting board so.
If only there was no import duty from Asia I'd have it bought already.

Hi,
I'm looking for a fixed aperture zoom lens, such as:
Tamron 17-50mm f2.8
Sigma 18-50mm f2.8
or similar
I don't think I want a Tamron 28-75 f2.8
Cheers,
Pa.

Hi
Don't want to start a new thread for me next questions-
I got offered a Sigma (2nd hand) 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC for $315.
the best price for the Tamron 17-50 seems to be about $400 new.

I'm in Ireland so woulnd't be using the warrenty so don't mind about that. Is the Tamron worth the extra money?

I can't see anywhere on the site- how does one go about submitting photos?

Very nice photos btw.

Thanks for the post Hypocorism! That rules out the one from Amazon!
Basically I have to look at all lenses that are f2.8 and roughly within that range:
Tamron 17-50
Sigma 17-50
Sigma 18-50,
maybe even
Sigma 24-70
Tamron 28-75

Am I missing any?

I'll have to compare
prices
new vs 2nd hand price
IQ (don't think this'll really be important to me; as long as picture looks fine to me it should be okay.)
what focal range is best suited for me. As mentioned before probably the 17-50 or similar.

In your opinion is the Tamron better?

Sigma EX - Zoom lens - 18 mm - 50 mm - f/2.8 DC Macro - Pentax K

Is $450/£282 a fair price?
I have a friend in the USA so he can bring it over.

Hi,
I joined a few months back but never introduced myself. So here goes
I'm Patrick Dinneen (35), from Cork but living in Galway, West Ireland.
Most photos are taken from around Galway and are an eclectic mix.

I got a Panasonic FZ-28 a few years back, liked it a lot (expect for low light and lack of bokeh). Along came my kids and it was a good excue to upgrade to a DSLR.

I shoot mainly with a Pentax K-X. I have a Pentax 18-250 and 50mm f1.7 (sale pending, will buy Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 macro next). maybe a flash too.
I keep a Panasonic TZ5 compact on me for anything I stumble upon and don’t have my Pentax with me. It’s great for macro/close up shots.

I often try to take photos from a slightly different angle/perspective as it makes them stand out from the standard/95% of photos.

I have a photoblog- http://www.photoblog.ie/
I'm planning on changing it to a website (Zenfolio), incorporating a photoblog section. I just think it seems more complete, easier for people to browse by category and of course I might even sell a photo or two.
Some say your photoblog/site should stick to one style mainly. I have a wife and two young kids so don't get out to shoot as often as I'd like so I throw up any photo I like, regardless of category.

Here's my Flickr photostream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pacork
Finally I tweet infrequently; mainly interesting photography links, photos etc- http://twitter.com/pacork

I also like boards.ie Photogrpahy forum (Irish site) http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=27 and http://pentaxforums.com , which is good for buying/selling (espically if you have a friend living in the USA).

Anyway, that's me.
Cheers,
Pa.

Hi,
It's a hard choice between the two lenses. The constant f.28 seems very good for people/portrait shots but the extra length very handy.
I think I'll go for the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 DC EX macro. Can always crop.

I presume if they made a 17-135 f2.8 lens it'd be massive and extremlly expensive...

If others were in the same boat which did you choose and why?
Thanks,
Pa.
