King Kong, a gorilla, that's what I see.
An owl? yes. Look at the gorilla's nostrils as the owl's eyes and yes, I can see an owl.

Technically I do like this B&W photo. And the little girl has helped you by giving that cheeky smile and lovely pose. Also a lovely composition with her clothes rail.
As for Ricoh, my GX100 is my trusty carry about. Bullet proof! A secondhand GX200 is a good buy. I too have an NEX and I've managed a couple of nice portraits with that.
You mentioned in-camera effects in your other post. I find high contrast B&W nice for some portraits if you're not after the soft look.

I like the effect and I like the photos. I especially like the last door because of the strong play between the sunlight and shadows on the forest floor. Helps form a contrast to the trees themselves. Very nice.

This really came about because in the past I have seen an SLR film camera or two in charity shops but never checked them out. Next time I just might check them out and see what I find. Now I have a good idea of what to look for.

Hi Peter, do you have examples to scan to let us see?

I like the soft colours of the bird and that piercing eye.
So tell me, do they whistle?
