Nice shots. I especially like the last one, the dark (despite the street lighting) and rain give the shot an atmosphere that makes the figures look almost real!
Cheers

Lovely shots, especially the monochromes. I have often photographed along the quays, but usually during the daylight. Even then, the famine statues are moving.

I will be in Dublin in June (around Midsummer's Day), may have to stay out pretty late to emulate these!
I hope you have better weather for it than i did. i couldnt get a shot of the front of the tall ship because of the wind and rain. I was lucky the statues were facing the right way

Managed to get into the big smoke last night to get a couple of shots. Weather was awful, wet and windy. Struggled to manage tripod camera and brolly, most or all the shots face away from the rain in an attempt to keep the rain off the front element.
Cc welcome

Got to say that first shot is fantastic. Just the simplicity of the background and the highlights on its wingtips , wonderful. I wouldn't stop smiling for a month if I'd taken it

It's a long weekend here in WA due to Anzac Day. So yesterday I was pixel shifting.

A total shift of around 700Km between home, Margaret River & Leeuwin Lighthouse. It looks like the technique works as I'm pleased with the results.

I will be shifting them again today up to the Pinnacles and back.

Best regards

Some cracking shots in there Pete. I think you've captured the atmosphere and action of the day, some nice angles and i don't see a whole lot wrong with your panning tbh. There are a couple of resident motorsport shooters here who are usually very helpful in passing on advice.
Great set.

Ok so i finally got a chance to try this out this morning, not the best of subjects i know but it works for me as i can see what the adjustments i made did with regards to the end result.
#1- no flash

#2- flash as i would have normally tried to use it

#3- flash used using advice from Nigel to make adjustments

The idea for me was to not have a silhouette, which is what i have in the 1st shot, 2nd completely blown and the 3rd is what i wanted to get, which is an unblown sky, while keeping some rust detail in the metal. Done in hss mode with - compensation on flash combined with a much higher shutter speed than the normal 1/180th id normally have tried to use.

Just want to say a serious thanks to you Nigel, thats been a great help in trying to understand some of the workings of this flash unit. Once i get used to using it in this mode and become more comfortable with it, i can see myself putting it to proper use.
Thanks again

Derek

This may be a better indicator of the dof, taken at f2.8 not wide open at f1.7

Hi David, no it wasnt meant to be soft focus just an indicator of the very shallow dof. ill step it down and see if its sharper and clearer.
Thanks John ill try that in an hour or so and see what happens.
