Does anyone know what kind of magnification you get with a pentax f 50mm + a 2x tc deglassed, which is 29mm extension. would it give a true macro ratio ?
Here are a couple of shots with this combo, 1 at f8 the rest at f1.7. They are of a pear blossom and a dandelion.
Any thoughts.

Hi I can't help you on that one but I would highly recommend a Tamron sp90 macro it's a cracking lens

If you take an image of a ruler you should be able to work it out.

Hi John, would that be straight on or at an angle ?

It would be easier straight on. You know the size of the sensor, you can read off the size of the ruler, so you can work out the magnification ratio.

This might be a silly question but do I take it as close as I can focus or what ?

This is all getting too close to arithmetic for my liking - I don't do that. The pear blossoms are nice though.
Were the dandelions meant to be soft focus?
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Your maths Derek will reveal the magnification at the distance you focused on, so if you want the maximum magnification, you go for the closest possible focus.

Hi David, no it wasnt meant to be soft focus just an indicator of the very shallow dof. ill step it down and see if its sharper and clearer.
Thanks John ill try that in an hour or so and see what happens.

This may be a better indicator of the dof, taken at f2.8 not wide open at f1.7
