I've toyed with the idea and looked at digiscoping a lot over the years - mostly from a bird photography point of view. I've come to the conclusion that for that purpose the scope is far more critical than the camera. I have seen some stunning pictures with a very cheap compact and a very expensive Swarovski scope. Not many good ones with DSLR's. I also came to the conclusion that good results could be obtained while under certain specific conditions of good light and static birds at low level and great distance. I also concluded that it was too much hassle and expense for the limited use I would get. May be different for astronomy though. Just my opinion, others swear by it.

sorry, just noticed you listed your Tamron as 'Tamron 70-300' The missing comma made me think there were suffixes after the lens. Yes it is a huge upgrade. My Tamron suffered greatly from CA and PF.

Sorry, my eyesight seems to be getting worse these days.

I used the Tamron quite a bit before upgrading. I wouldn't raise expectations that much. An upgrade but possibly small to moderate was more realistic for me in the real world. Only slightly less fringing except in extreme conditions, a bit sharper at the top end, 55mm so wider , focusing slightly quicker but as noisy. Quickshift is handy but offset by lacking the macro in my opinion. Nevertheless a well worthwhile upgrade I would say.

It says the in lens OS doesn't work - but why not? It works with the 150-500.

It's an opportunity to buy at a reduced price based on today's prices. Yesterday's prices were yesterday's and in keeping with the general rise in prices from all marques. They just hit at different times.

I would buy while the going is good. After the offer, it will just cost more again.

Not for long. Prices always drop when new models come out. Look at the price of a K-r now to its price when it came out.
By the way, thanks to Keir for the original post in Leads to Deals where this would sit better.

Not sure - it sounds different to my Siggy problem. Sounds like it could be problems with the contacts on the camera or the lens. I suppose you could try a factory reset of the camera?

For those of you with a K-m, K-x or K-r you can easily make an RF remote to use on your camera. Range is very long, works in sunlight and doesn't need line of sight and can be fired from behind. I have written an article on this about a year ago if you search. Basically you just use a TV remote and device that converts IR to RF and back which you can get from Ebay or other AV sources. I use a little Lithium battery as most are 12v mains adapted to make it portable for up to 6 hours use in the field. Costs about £20-£30 to purchase the bits. No skill required, all purpose made. I've used it for Kingfishers. If you want full details pm me.

I'm glad to hear how resiliant Pentax screens are to scratches. Every other device I've had always accumulates a number of scratches eventually. Perhaps I'll try it without one now.
