Yes, posted that on the preview thread. Generally very favourable I thought. I wasn't totally clear what he was saying about the AF.
Seem to be a few hands on reviews coming out now. I wonder who will be the first on here to have one

Mainly positive except some concerns about the auto focus.

If your budget is tight consider buying second hand. With new cameras about to arrive there may be those who wish to buy new and move along their used but still spotless K-x and K-r cameras.[/quote]------------------------------
Like me fairly soon I would think

OTOH it's also in their interests to let people *think* there's an FF on the cards, if thats what some people want.

Whatever's coming, if the k30 is anything to go by, it'll be good!
Talking of which - when is anyone actually going to get one for real?

It has to be said that the Pentax 55-300 is quite a bit more expensive than the Tamron and Sigma offerings, so if the Sigma crops up at a good price - even better, secondhand - then give it a go. That's what I did - bought a s/h Sigma, and when I managed to get a Pentax 55-300 at a good price I was able to sell the Siggy for pretty much what I paid for it.

Although not if you get the DAL version. I have to say I've never been quite sure what the worry is with the plastic mount - used mine heavily for a couple of years without any problems.

I doubt if there's any difference between those statistically, looking at the numbers.

I've been down that road and starting with the fairly good Tamron 70-300mm but I found the DAL 55-300mm superior in every way except for pseudo macro.
I also now have the 150-500mm Sigma which I think is slightly better still. I searched loads of reviews and forums and the Pentax seems to win almost every time. Have you considered the much cheaper DAL 55-300mm? It is identical optically and can be bought for not much over 100 GBP. The lack of quick shift and metal mount might not bother you for a saving of £100 over a DA copy. (DAL can't be got new as such but usually a few about from part of kit deals)

Thanks, yes I did realize that. I also know that older flashes of various makes can be used provided the voltage is correct but this was good advice to stop me being a good samaritan and messing up!
Thanks, Dave

Thank you! Hence my caution - I won't offer to lend it to a Sony owner then.
