Yes, it should not be that cheap for an AF version as they are quite sought after. I have the 1.5x PZ AF version. On the 55-300 I found that you are just as well off cropping to the same size but it was a bit better on a borrowed 300mm DA* and so could be ok on your 60-250.

Apparently the batteries are the same as the Optio S10, S12 and several other Pentax and other compacts. If you search for those you may find them cheaper - I've just ordered mine for £2-50 from a UK supplier, including postage. The spare being so small, light and cheap I can't see the slightly lower battery life being a problem for anyone really.

Can you give us some coded message to help identify the "well known retailer" in case ours has the same range. It's always nice to get your hands on something before you buy - something you can rarely do with Pentax.

Yes, got mine from SRS last week as ex demo, but appears brand new to me. Just taken some pics in Venice and will post when get a chance. There is just something about it .... je ne sais quoi, but it's got it!

Thanks for the useful info. I have three of these devices, all working with my K-r (and formerly K-x). I also have the JJC RM-4 and that is now working with the Q after changing the battery. The other two still don't but I think perhaps the coin batteries are low and perhaps the Q just needs that bit more power than the K-r. So basically solved and thanks.

Do the cheap generic IR remotes constantly update codes for newer cameras. It's just that the ones I have for K-r don't work the Q although the ones now listed include Q and K-r on same model. Presumably they have to update them?

I've always found and decided about 20 years ago that the "best" software is always the one you are most familiar with so long as it does what you want! It seems beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I use a combination of Irfan View (for the fastest viewing of raw files), Gimp, Noiseaware and Helicon Filter and mainly PS Elements 10. You can see that again there is a budget factor involved again here.
I tried a trial version of Lightroom - couldn't make any sense of it and it just seemed like an expensive glorified organiser that I didn't need. Now before all the Lightroom Users tell me I am an idiot I realise it must be a fantastic tool else it wouldn't be so popular and I just wasn't taking the time and effort to use it as it was designed. As I said at the beginning, everyone usually plumps for what they have learned most thoroughly and sticks with it.

Teriffic shots. I like the Coal Tit the best. Personally I would clone out the remaining food on the log in the first one to make it more natural.

Nice compositions and colours. I agree about the compact - I have got obsessed with the technical superiority of a DSLR and have only just started remembering the beauty of an image is affected only slightly by that stuff. Did you take 1. from a bridge or have you got long arms?

1. is my fave - I really like HDR when it's done like this.
