The various scenes that Simon captures are nearly always good but it's that mastery of contrast in those black and whites that makes them outstanding.

You are quite right - the perishers do hang out in the most badly lit places. Getting this image is marvelous, whatever the difficulties.

I think the bit in the middle is a brake cylinder - I never realized they were so big - it only has to stop about 50-60 tons of rolling metal!
