Impressive results. a little camera with a massive lens. I still have an *istD but its never been used for years. It was my first digital camera and in those early days of digital, 2005/6, I only shot in JPEG, but it gave me satisfactory pictures.

I'm a member of Durham Photographic Society ( around 80 members currently) and we've decided to suspend our weekly Thursday evening meetings until further notice. Unlike many camera clubs we meet all year round with only the Christmas/New Year period left blank
We keep in touch via a DPS Facebook page which attracts lots of new images every week. I've suggested we take a leaf out of the PUF weekly and monthly comp systems and set up a weekly or monthly comp with one image per person and the winner of the previous week setting the next subject and judging the results. The idea seems like it might catch on.

I've had SDM issues twice with my hard working DA* 50-135mm zoom, bought when the design was new more 10 years ago and also with my much newer DA* 200mm 2.8. both were fixed by Johnsons, the 50-135 twice, so far giving no further trouble.
Clocking up repair bills at Johnsons was far cheaper than replacing the lenses.
These lenses have been extensively used both before and after fixing, although the DA*200 has now been replaced (part exchange ) at SRS for the D FA* 70-200 which gives me much more flexibility.
More recently when the DA*16-50mm started to play up a very kind fellow PUF member who lives a few miles away and is more technically skilled than I am converted it to screw drive and its now as good as new.

Weekly competition #657: A favourite subject
Weekly competitions have been low in entries of late so I wondered if each photographer was allowed to pick their own subject it might encourage more people to take part. We have so many fine photographers on PUF, all of whom have their own favourite subjects at which they excel. I wondered if each and everyone picked a favourite shot from their own specific photographic skills. anything from table top to landscapes, transport to wildlife, abstract to architecture, for instance, we might get more entries. So for one week only its time to pick your own and give me sleepless nights trying to distinguish between the respective merits of a wide range of entries.
Other than that the usual weekly competition rules apply: your image must be shot on a Pentax or closely related clone and entries close midnight Sunday March 1 British time.

A fine set of mono images. York station is a fine piece of railway architecture and is rewarding to photographers.
I've done train shots there as well as architectural views and even street photography while people watching.
I look forward to seeing your next in the series.
David.

A fine set of mono images Glyn, my favourite among these is the last one in the set.
Steam locomotives let off clouds of steam on starting, especially if they have been standing for some time. The footplate crew open the cylinder drain cocks to blow out any residual water from condensed steam which could damage the pistons or cylinders.

Quality images Peter, despite health and camera problems 2019. I love our exquisite use of light in several of these selected pictures. Better luck for 2020.

Just seen these Bill. As always some stunning photography from you which captures the magic of England's most northerly county and also, arguably, its most appealing. But then I'm biased, I was born in Newcastle where I spent much of my working life.
