It was a cracking shot to start with Emily so don't get hung up on the noise issue. As Hefty said, better to have a noisy shot than an unsharp one. But the guys have shown that noise reduction is possible in PS with more than one method. Personally I shoot everything in RAW these days and for higher ISO ratings I use the RAW noise reduction which helps.
At the end of the day you have s super action picture here, noisy or not.

The only bit the EXIF got right with my picture was the centre weighted average metering. I wouldn't have a clue about how to operate such a lens as described here.

I joined a camera club many years ago, when I first got into photography. It was awful. Full of middle aged men called Ron and Ken, banging on about their Canon T90s and Minolta 7000s.

There was a play on TV some years ago, called Glamour night. It was a perfect representation of what photography clubs were like, back then.
All different now... I hope!
What's wrong with Rons and Kens. There are several of both in this Forum and they're splendid fellows.

I can't speak for other camera clubs but I'm a member of Durham Photographic Society (nearly 100 members)and the chat there is certainly not all about whose got which camera and gear. Apart from those of my immediate friends I haven't a clue which camera most of the pictures we see at the club were taken on. From personal experience of my own club and neighbouring societies the prime interest is in creating images, not camera equipment. It's useful to hear visiting speakers talk about their own photography and to hear judges commenting on pictures in competitions. Some of us go to the pub after the meeting and the chat there is also instructive. Camera clubs are great for like minded friends to meet up and learn more about photography skills. If you are unsure why not go along to the Chesterfield camera club for a couple of meetings to check it out before deciding whether to join. If you don't care for the company there I'm sure there are other similar societies in your area where you may feel more at home.

I still have my first digital camera, istDS, but it's now used mainly by my wife and sometimes by my ten year old grandson. I have two K10 bodies, one generally has a tele zoom on and the other a wide angle zoom.

Thanks for that Mike and Tooks. I was using a bog standard Sandisk 2gb card and my shutter speed was at 1/400 sec. I only fired short bursts, only two or three each burst, so the buffer shouldn't have filled.

Getting back to the topic that began this thread, frames per second, I'm not clear if shooting RAW, which I now do all the time, is slower than firing in JPEG. I don't often use continuous, or motor drive, mode but I did at the weekend to capture a steam train moving at speed, around 70mph. I was shooting RAW and my K10d seemed to fire at just around 2fps. Would it have moved faster in JPEG?

I didn't know Belinda B was Mrs Hyram. If Hyram enters and wins then I'm sure it will be on merit not on the promise of an increase in dress allowance.

I too have a Z1 with the 28-80mm lens. Many years ago the lens rolled off the breakfast bar onto the kitchen floor and the side button broke off. I taped it over with insulation tape and it continued to work just fine for many years. After I went digital with an istDS I used his 'damaged' 28-80 zoom in place of the kit lens as I thought it was better quality.
