I like No. 1 best, its a dramatic and graphic image but I think the panoramic view of it is a bit confusing. The second picture is a good abstract of the support cables and skyline.
It's called The Flintshire Bridge and I have also photographed it as I believe its a very beautiful structure. I put a colour shot in The Gallery a few months ago and I also entered a version of it in the Weekly Competition for 'Steel.'

Imaginative composition. Clever to use the pillars to disguise the half face.

Your long boat in the rain was also serene Will.

I chose my Avatar because I would choose to resemble him, not because I am like him. No one who knows me would ever describe me as serene. However my wife does sometimes remark that I'm not in touch with the outside world.
As for winning this round - that's going to be a tough call for us all because the subject has already flushed out many good entries. I hope Alun doesn't have to be at work early on Monday morning.

Serenity can mean absolute peace and quiet, a calmness in the mind or in a person's surroundings. It can also refer to a serene person, someone who is totally in control, calm and dignified and untouched by the outside world. Beautiful, restful and soft music can be said to be serene as can a religious painting by a great master.
I could go on but I'm sure you get the picture Aiki.

I totally agree with the above comments. What I meant when I said it was good for a newbie to win was that it was pleasing when a newcomer produces the picture which the judge considers to be the best. There is, of course, no best picture in a competition only the picture which most appeals to that particular judge. Selecting a winner among pictures, art or photos, is not like a horse race where the first across the line is obvious.

True it is, I have liked the humor in some of your pics.

Glad that you liked the theme, David
I am repeating myself: I still like your entry!
But it was hard to decide for me. It really was.
I hope you all agree, that if the pics are quite equal, then its nice to give "new" ones some chance.

As not medal owners:
JudithAnn, Mhuni and also Hefty are the entries that "warmed" me a lot.

JudithAnn ! You can bet, that I want to have a rest from this judging ! Maybe I took it too much seriously
I wonder what pics others would have chosen ?!
It would get boring if the same old members kept on winning all the time. Its great when a newbie gets the top prize.

I can't speak for the Tamron or the Pentax/Samsung lenses but I have the Sigma 10-20 and I think it's brilliant. A lot of people at PU use it, including my friend Ken (Beginner). In my camera club (Durham Photographic Society) quite a lot of members also use this lens, Canon and Nikon owners as well as Pentax. I've never heard anyone complain about its quality or versatility. On the contrary they all seem enthusiastic.
Hope this helps, david.
