Congrats Alan. I bet that made you feel better. I recognise that last picture, it's on my manor, The River Wear at Durham. Excellent stuff.

I do exactly what you are trying to achieve by using the Faststone browser. My RAW images are always converted to TIFF. When I want a JPEG I pull the image up in Faststone, hover the curser over the left side of the scene and the drop down menu gives me Save As. Hit that and the menu gives you all the saving options, including JPEG.
Simples.

PS I is fick too when it comes to computers but I think my images are 16 bit because I think that's what my K10 does. I have no probs converting to JPEG with them in Faststone.

One of these days you and I will meet up Barrie, we only live about half a dozen miles apart and we get to the same places to make photos. I too like the centrally placed lighthouse between the beach guards in No. 1. Rules of composition are there to be broken by adventurous photographers, once they've mastered those rules in the first place. I find No. 2, Roker Pier, in need of a stronger focal point. The walkers and the lighthouse are too far away and there's an awful lot of dead space in the forground. I like the two pictures of Souter Lighthouse, particularly the one shot against the light. I must go back there and improve on the rubbishy shots I took last time.

It's a pity a minority out of almost 10,000 members have spoiled it for you Gwyn. I'm sad to see you go but you'll be welcome if you decide to come back one way.

The appointment of Dan and Ken is to be welcomed as strengthening an already very sound team.

Don't apologise Mike. There are some later than you and with still half an hour to go we could hit the 50 in this competition.

Now it's 39. Who's going to be No. 40. A sleepless night ahead of me I'm afraid.

I began shooting everything in RAW about a year ago when I became really interested in producing a lot of black and white photos. I found I got better quality when converting from colour. But I must agree with many of the other comments that RAW is more time consuming and the files take up a lot of space.

In the unlikely event of me ever leaving Pentax for another brand - I could only consider Nikon - I would just quietly do it without feeling the need to tell the world. It would be no one else's business other than my own.
As I closed the door behind me I would post a message on here thanking everyone for putting up with me and my pictures and for being such good company.

It is a cracking subject - I wonder what it's like inside?

Mike, I was there earlier this year and inside its just another department store, no big surprises or delights in there.
