You have a real talent for composition, these are excellent. A couple of them would benefit from lifting the shadows a little, but they are all really nice images.

I love these images, all of them. Favourite is probably 'G', but hard to pick from such an accomplished bunch. They speak volumes about your skill and eye, especially as you were short of time.

Wonderful set, thanks for letting us see them.

I think Andrew Allport (AndrewA) either has one, or used to have one. Perhaps worth messaging him?

I agree with you John and I would go further in that I think the DA50 is better than many of Pentax's previous and current 50mm lenses. I've owned and used a fair few of them and wouldn't swap any for the plastic fantastic. I used it recently at Tickhill Music Festival, in challenging conditions, with most shots on AF at F1.8. Depth of field as you can imagine is slim at this aperture, but it nailed most of them and the sharpness at full aperture is quite amazing.

It's the best value Pentax lens currently available and if anyone doesn't have one I would highly recommend them to get one.

The shot you have produced with it is lovely, great colours as has been said already and I agree with you on its 3D quality.

Of course David, many disagree with you. The K-5 variants out perform the K-3 with regard to dynamic range and high ISO capabilities. For aurora shots and sunrise shots I'd use the K-5iis before the K-3.
Hi Alan, you know a lot more than I do when it comes to using your cameras in more extreme conditions. When I mentioned there was very little between the K-5iis and the K-3 for low light, I was speaking from my own experience shooting images at around 1600 ISO in varying light at concerts and festivals. This ISO level doesn't really stretch the sensor capabilities and for this type of work there is very little between them. For Aurora / night shots I don't have a clue as I don't take these images.

I do think there's quite a difference though between the original K-5 and the K-3 when it comes to AF performance in low light. The K-3 is much better and also edges it over the K-5iis, at least with my particular bodies it does.

what will a K3 do that my K5 can't?
It depends Andrew on what type of photography you need to do. I do a music festival shoot each year and the K-3 is streets ahead of the K-5iis when it comes to focusing quickly and accurately. The K-3 is also miles better with my DA*300 for wildlife images, again this is mostly down to better focusing (locks on better and is more accurate).

There's very little between them for low light photography in terms of noise and IQ.

I've always used back button focussing and would never revert to the shutter button now. The back button just offers so much more control and flexibility, especially when you need to hit the shutter button at the right moment to get the shot, without worrying about what the AF is doing. I find this invaluable on Festival / Gig shoots.

K-3 is ample for me too, I can't get anywhere near its capabilities.

I'm still struggling to make the most of the K-5iis. Unless you are a pro or semi-pro shooter, I'm not sure why anyone would need more than 24mp and the performance a K-3 offers?

David
