Thanks guys, some very informative informtion here; I will keep looking for the right lens, seems to me that you are all pretty unanimous that the Takumars are the best.

Also, further to the above, would you rate it higher than the Pentax-M f3.5 135mm for image quality?

Does anyone have any experience of the Komine made Vivitar 135mm f2.8 M42 lens? I'm thinking of buying one but I need to be sure the IQ is top notch on this lens.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I don't think you should worry too much about noise Maria given the results you are obtaining with your pics. I haven't noticed it being obtrusive in any of them and if anything it adds to the atmosphere.

#3 and #4 for me, also #4 definitely works better in colour.

You are lucky to get the replacement Dean!!! Especially after you dropped your K-r into the bathwater (don't tell the guy at Currys). Just joking, I know you would not lie about such things.

I've had no issues at all with my K-x and a Pentax-M 28mm f3.5 taking pictures in similar lighting conditions. I'm not sure about the metering on the K-5, but on my K-x the metering is performed by pressing the Exposure compensation (+/-) button when in manual mode with a fully manual lens attached. Works perfectly every time. Maybe there is a fault with your K-5?

WOW!!! Brilliant images. My 2x Teleplus 7 element Converter is rubbish with long telephotos and robs images of all sharpness and detail. It is however excellent with my Sigma 50mm f2.8 Macro and turns out sharp images with this lens.

What make / model is your 1.4 Teleconverter?

No.2 is a fantastic shot of a beautiful bird of prey. Works so well against the greens and browns of the vegetation in the field.
