I like it

Personally I don't like altering a photo with major cloning/ background changes without telling people - you have told people and have not tried to pass it off as unaltered so I have no issue - for me it's all about the description/ honesty
Hear Hear!! Agree with every word Stuey.

It seems the birds have done well round our way this year - lost of young Goldfinches, Chaffinches, Blue Tits, Great Tits etc.

Our feeders get emptied at a rate of knots!

David

Not cheating Steve - you have turned an almost unusable image into a great one! There are endless possibilities now that you can choose your own background - what about a nice sunset?

David,

I play all music on my PC through my hi-fi system. No problem!
I used to do this too, but now it's on a hard drive on a Popcorn Hour Media Player connected straight into my Amp, so I can listen without the PC switched on!

R.E.M. for me, current favourite is the '39 songs' live album. It's not on the PC though, that's not loud enough! It's blasting out through my Onkyo Amp and Tannoy speakers

Thanks for the links Dave, I had seen the second one but not the first. I picked up the lens today, £20, so not much of a risk if it isn't much good. It's in fantastic, almost as new condition. I've also found out that they did not make and Adaptamatic PK mount, so I'm stuck with the M42 to PK adaptor. Not had much chance to try the lens yet, hoping for good weather tomorrow.

Keep at it Charlotte - as you know I have the same Sigma lens and I really like the images it produces. I don't tend to use for such extreme macros as you do, but I know it is a sharp lens and lovely also for portraits.

I've been looking for a cheap but high quality 300mm lens for a while now to use with my Teleplus 2x 7-element converter as my DA L 55-300mm just does not perform with a converter attached (it robs the image of all sharpness). I stumbled across a Tamrom 300mm f5.6 Adaptamatic on ebay, made in 1973 and 1 owner from new. This lens is virtually 'mint' and is a work of art compared to the modern lenses. I wonder if anyone could help me with two questions:

1. Does anyone have experience of using this lens, if so how do you rate the image quality (seems extremely good to me)
2. Does anyone know where I can get a PK Adaptamatic (not Adaptall) mount? I can use the lens now with a M42 to PK adaptor, but an Adaptamatic PK one would be better

Thanks in advance of any information given.

Regards
David

I am happy to report that the Hoya Circular Polariser works perfectly with the DA L 55-300mm, without any focus issues. I'm not sure why this circular polariser works whilst some others don't, but it does.

The Hoya is not the 'pro' version, it is just a standard one but the quality appears to be very good.

Hope this is helpful to those of you out there who may wish to fit a polariser on the 55-300mm lens.

David

Hi to Chris & Tim - of course I would be very happy to let you know how the Hoya goes on. I've done a bit of research since posting the thread and it seems that problems with Circular Polarisers and long zooms are not uncommon. I also tried the filter on my son's Sigma 70-300mm DG APO and suffered the same issues.

David
