I use old lenses as much as new ones, particularly on the K-5 where they work just great.

What would you plan to use it for (I know, taking photos) i.e. specifcally what type of images will you use it for the most? Is it for studio work, landscapes or just general photographic use?

It's possible it may have been dis-assembled and put back together not quite correctly. This is pretty common, especially with lenses bought on ebay.

Unless you are prepared and able to take it to bits, I don't know whether you'll ever find out what's wrong with it. Either this, or pay someone to take it to bits for you?

I think I would be tempted to send it back, or negotiate a pretty big refund.

Hi Algi

With the polariser on the 55-300 it was not a light issue, it was a focus issue. The lens will not focus at all with a circular polariser fitted, whether in auto or manual focus. I can't explain why, but it's true. I have tried different circular polarisers on mine and it will not produce a properly sharp image with any of them. Put the same polarisers on other lenses and there is no problem. Without filters the images are really sharp; the effect is less pronounced with a UV filter, but I still prefer it without one.

There are quite a few articles on the web about circular polarisers and long zooms, so it's not just the 55-300 that can suffer, although clearly it depends on the polariser used.

16-45 is a lot better than the kit lens IMHO, but probably not wide enough for you anyway.

Mid-week bump - is there anyone out there with the remotest interest in some lovely manual focus lenses? Make me some offers if you like before they go on ebay.
