Congratulations. Where was it taken?
It was taken in the Straits of Gibralter, the coastline is Southern Spain.

Thanks to everyone for the comments and congratulations.

Just to say that the 40mm DA XS pancake lens is great - I have it on my K-01 and it has surprised me with its sharpness, contrast and great colours. Nice out of focus effects too.

Worth buying one if you like compact lenses and good IQ.

Neil

I live in Sheffield and would be interested in meeting up at Victoria Quays. I could give you a lift to Norfolk Park and back to the Train Station?

What time are you expecting to be at Victoria Quays?

Cheers
David

Nice shot Drew, well seen. At ISO 100 there's no doubting the K7's quality - it is at higher ISO's that it falls behind the K-5.

Hello and welcome to the Forum! The 55-300 is a great lens, much better than the Sigma 70-300. I've never used the Tamron so can't comment on that one.

I have the DA L version which has a plastic mount and no 'quick shift' focussing, but is optically identical to the DA version. These tend to be cheaper - you can sometimes find them for £150 new. I've had mine for over 2 years and use it a lot - it's one of my favourite lenses and I always take it with me whenever I take the camera out.

I was quite chuffed today to find out I have made the 'Showcase' section on Landscape Photography Magazine with one of my images, see link below:

This is the one that made it:

It was shot with the K-5IIs and DA L 55-300. I've tried four submissions over the past 18 months and had two published so far, so not a bad percentage. Funnily enough, both of mine that have been published were taken with the 55-300 lens, unusual for landscape images.

Hi Stephen, thanks for posting these. They are all potentially very good, but something does strike me about them. The focus is a little off on all of them; I wonder whether you have a slight camera or lens issue? It's easiest to see on the first one; take a look at the item worn around the lady's neck and you will see that the point of focus is somewhere around her left shoulder, so it is 'back focussed' quite a lot. The others look similar although it's harder to tell as there are no easy points of reference to see.

What camera / lens were they shot with? It would be worth trying to calibrate the lens to the camera and this would probably improve things a lot.

I hope this is helpful.

David

Cheers Gareth, I should have made it clear when I made the comments that I wasn't referring to your post or to any other observations on this thread.

I can't really understand why some people get so upset by colour popping, regardless of whether it is fashionable or whether someone likes it or not. Some of the feelings and actions prompted by other threads have been completely out of proportion and inappropriate to a 'friendly' forum such as this one.

Regards
David
