Panorama / Paralex Error HELP

HI guys

This year ive decided to put my wildlife shooting to the back burner and concentrate a little more on my landscapes. I have just spoken to joe at Redsnapper and hes given me the low down on my new tripod and ball head i am thinking of buying.
However, there is something that I need help with or perhaps it wont be a problem at all.

How do you fix or is there a "pano head" /slider for doing a good panorama image?

I know its not something everyone likes to use and some might say I wont use it often enough and not to worry but I have been practicing and I think I might enjoy it a lot! I think it would be terrific for the mountains and seascapes.

Can anyone help me with this pano slider or do I need to just get clicking and not worry too much?

Any thoughts on the subject GREATLY appreciated

As long as you avoid having objects in the foreground you should be fine with landscape panos and some simple stitching software. The idea of a pano head is that you rotate the lens/camera about the nodal point of the lens rather than about the tripod mount point to avoid parallax. Better stitching software will support multiple viewpoints and anti-ghosting to get round this problem.

It is quite easy to take and stitch even handheld landscape panos

The thing is I do want to have foreground interest in my shots which I think is very important for the interest of the shot.

Ive used microsoft ice and think its fab software but i am noticing paralex errors

Does anyone know a good tripod, ball head and plate set up for this kind of thing?

Can this fit on ANY tripod - dont know if this will fit on the Redsnapper tripod I am thinking of getting and CAN I remove ballheads from any tripod and stick this one on for example?

AND how do I attach the Panosaurus to my K-x?

There are several good name makers who make panoramic heads. A simple search will throw up many. Panosaurus and Nodal Ninja for instance, but tripod and head manufacturers also often have one.

Did you look at the Panosaurus website?

You don't rotate the camera around the nodal point. You rotate the camera around the entrance pupil.

The nodal point is a point where the image coming in a single lens seems to go out at the same point on the opposite face of the lens.

BTW, I've seen people quoting its position to 0.1mm. How do they set up their wobbbly pano contraptions to that accuracy ? I just can't do it with the bit of string, elastic band and a bunch of keys that I use as a pano head

Having done a lot of research it seems there are plenty of people out there who succesfully do panos with great results NOT using an expensive head.

The points I seem to be getting are:

- keep the bubble centred on the tripod
- try and use a lens around 50mm
- take plenty of snaps
- make sure the camera is vertical

As long as there isnt too much in the foreground you will get away with it

I would add to your points above by mentioning that it's always best to use a lens with as little distortion as possible. That's why I tend to use my old M28mm F3.5 as this hardly distorts at all and produces excellent Panorama results.

I went ahead and bought the M 28mm 2.8 David and so far its not bad. Its been touted as a poor landscape lens outside of F8 but we shall see

I tend not to publish them on here or on other websites Alistair as I think it's very difficult to do them justice on a website, especially on here with the size restrictions. Here is one (not very good and unfinished) example with the M28mm F3.5, this is probably as wide as is practical to display on here. BTW, the F3.5 tends to be much more highly regarded than the F2.8 version, it might be worth you keeping an eye open for one.

Yes Ive read many times that the 3.5 is the 28 to buy, but I will persevere with the former.

which pano stitching software did you use for that?
