Worth a try! On a serious note, does anyone have for sale a DA*300 in excellent condition? If so, please let me know.

David

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments on this set! I really did enjoy taking these, there's something quite stimulating about taking pictures in the same place time and time again and trying to get something different each time.

Lovely, David. Given the quality of these and previous bird shots, is it time for a PU trip to your back garden?
You are welcome anytime Simon, as is everyone else, we could have a BBQ and a home-made pizza from the wood-fired oven! Plenty of insect shots available too!

Fantastic shots Dave. I love the one with the Bee.
I like that one as well, how did you get a shot like that?
Hi Louise, it takes a lot of patience and practice! The other thing with shots like this is to forget about autofocus and use manual focus instead. It is virtually impossible to get the camera to AF on a bee as it is too small and moves too quickly; the camera keeps trying to focus on the background instead! The Pentax DFA 100 Macro has lovely smooth manual focussing that makes it easier. Also, it is important to under-expose when photographing red flowers, otherwise the reds get burned out.

Best wishes
David

A really nice set of images and the bird shots are lovely. They are a Great Tit and a Reed Bunting by the way!

These are good - the camera is working well with you! Looks like quality glass you are using, I'd also be interested in which lens.

I like all of these Nigel, they are very well taken. The colour is the one thing that does stand out to me too, there's definitely a greenish tint to most of them. I've never been to the location so I can't say whether this is accurate or not! Number 5 doesn't have this tint and to my eyes looks to be the best colour, I also like the composition on this one. Altogether a great set of images!

I like the BW, it gives a graphic quality to the image. I'm not 100% sure on the panorama, but it's a brave composition and I applaud you for trying something a bit different Alistair.

I have K-5IIs and K-3. Both brilliant, K-3 is a bit more brilliant though! A lot has already been said above, the K-3 just does everything that bit better and I have not been disappointed with higher ISO images vs. the K-5IIs. Whichever you choose you will be happy I think, if you can stretch to it the K-3 would get my vote.

2nd one for me too, great shot, BTW what happened to the colours in the shot taken with the 50-135?
Cheers Steve, I think I got it wrong on that one! The DA*50-135 renders the colours differently to the DFA macro, but I had to adjust the reds on all of them to get rid of the famous 'Pentax Magenta' tint that is there straight from the camera. I processed the last shot at a separate time to the first two and overdid the adjustment on the red hue, it's gone too orangey. Not the fault of the lens, but my ham-fisted processing!

Cheers
David
