Welcome to the Forum and the website in general, we will be interested to hear how you rate the K-5ii in comparison to your Nikons.

If you can get away with a fixed focal length lens like a K or M 28mm, that would be good because these lenses are very low on distortion. However, this doesn't afford flexibility which may be vital at a wedding. Failing this I would echo John's advice, but I would try to go a step up in quality above a kit lens and go for something like a Sigma 17-70, a Pentax DA*16-50 or a Pentax DA 17-70. You will get some distortion with these lenses, but nothing like what you would get with an ultra wide zoom. If at all possible keep the camera on the same level as the group you are photographing, i.e. don't shoot up or down too much if you can avoid it. This will minimise distortion and make the images more natural looking, although you may need a slight step up to ensure all heads in the group are visible. A set of step ladders is a very useful tool at a wedding for group shots.

That's a corker Drew, I loved it when you posted it in the Gallery and it looks great here too.

Just thought you would all like to see a festive image of Sheffield this evening. Shot through our bedroom window.

We had been out visiting my wife's Sister today and got caught out by the snow falling heavily from around 6:30pm. We almost didn't get home (only 4 miles) due to idiot drivers and cars getting stuck. There have been some fun and games on this hill outside our house, it beggars belief how some people drive in this weather.

Fantastic Alan - this is the kind of image I love to see, a reward for massive dedication. Great kudos to you and a happy and restful Christmas!

If you want to use the lens for both macro and portrait, it has to be the Sigma 105mm DG EX Macro. It's great for macro images, but utterly superb for portraits, it has a beautiful natural colour rendering and lovely soft bokeh. Forget the Pentax for portraits, it doesn't work well in this mode.

Do they compare when set to the same white balance values by hand?
Yes, it is from RAW files. I don't know about any differences when manually setting WB as I haven't tried this, but for outdoor shooting I generally find the K3 colours more pleasing. It can have a tendency to over-emphasise warmer tones though.

I've mentioned this many times before, using the K-5iis side by side with the K-3 it is clear to me that the K-3 is much warmer in tone and more akin to a CCD sensor in some ways. For working outside, landscape for example, I prefer the K-3's colour rendition. I suspect the K-5iis would be better for portraiture / weddings etc. I find the K-5iis a little 'cool' for landscapes, but as you mention it is easy to amend / correct the output from either camera. I also find with the K-3 that greens have less tendency to look 'acid' and the acid look is one that I hate on landscape and garden images.

It is so hard to choose a favourite from the whole year, but this has to be mine. Not a spectacular image, but so hard to get one like this. Taken with the K-5iis and DFA 100mm F2.8 Macro lens.
