Colour rendition on K52s vs K3

i have been doing quite a lot of indoor sports photograpphy lately where flash is not an option.

I have been using an 85 mm f 1.4 and a 35mm f 1.4 backed up with a trusty Pentax 50 mm f 1.8.

On 400 - 800 Iso I am maintaining good shutter speed and whilst the depth of field at f1.4 needs paying attention too, by and large , Myself, and more importantly my clients, are very happy with the images which will be displayed as a gallery in an international sports village

So what is the topic; I am consistently seeing a distinct difference in the colour rendition between the two cameras with the K5 2s producing a very true colour tone .

The K3 on the other hand, is producing a very warm almost garish colour tone in the artificial light of the court.

It is corrected easilly but it is clear by testing with the same camera settings, interchanging of lens and filters on each body, the two cameras produce strikingly different colour rendition.

i have tested this over and over again and the most marked difference is under artificial lighting; there is a difference under "good daylight"but it is not significant until the sun is lower and the colour temperature changes with; again with the K52s producing the most true to life colour

It seems the two sensors output a different colour tone under identical conditions.

Any wisdom, advice or comments on this would be most welcomed

I've mentioned this many times before, using the K-5iis side by side with the K-3 it is clear to me that the K-3 is much warmer in tone and more akin to a CCD sensor in some ways. For working outside, landscape for example, I prefer the K-3's colour rendition. I suspect the K-5iis would be better for portraiture / weddings etc. I find the K-5iis a little 'cool' for landscapes, but as you mention it is easy to amend / correct the output from either camera. I also find with the K-3 that greens have less tendency to look 'acid' and the acid look is one that I hate on landscape and garden images.

Do they compare when set to the same white balance values by hand?

Yes, it is from RAW files. I don't know about any differences when manually setting WB as I haven't tried this, but for outdoor shooting I generally find the K3 colours more pleasing. It can have a tendency to over-emphasise warmer tones though.
