These are realy good images. Is the fact that the guy may be homeless actually pertinent to the quality of the image? I don`t think so.Think the thing with these two images is there is no shock factor,The first is a stunning portrait, the second has such joy.
Well done Paul, quality photography, are you moving away from the shocking?

What I find worryin' is that his numbers are covered by material that looks exactly designed to do that! WTF
WTF! indeed. The gear on his arm also looks a bit excessive.
Shame is I can remember the time when the U.K. Police had a good reputation. Long time ago now.

Think there is also abit of reverse discretionary spend at work here as well; People who buy photographic (particularly digital) equipment have high disposable incomes. They may complain about price hikes, but they still buy the goods. Just look at the way digital slr sales keep rising, in a recession?

You can reproduce a lot of filter effects in Photoshop but personally I prefer to get it right at the time of taking the image, a set of grads and a few neutral densities will do this for you. You will learn a lot by using using them.
You can spend as much as you like on lenses but the 16-45 is a good addition to the kit lens, assuming you have the 18-55. Off course you can spend hundreds on Macro lenses but they are a bit limited in what you can use them for. Have a good look at ebay, you can pick up some decent manual lenses for not a lot of cash, this will allow you to experiment initially while you decide where you want to go.

wooly jumper £25.
But if you are the hardy type, forgo the wooly jumper and get a set of extension tubes and a 50mm manual lens to play about with macro, about £25 all in off ebay.
