Thanks for all the help. I am off back to the local shop that made this current machine to see what they can offer to build. At least my knowledge is a little more up to date thanks to all the posts

Ok so me and fatspider are out shooting the outdoor night scenes in leeds tomorrow.

Now his shots are always better than mine and I need to improve or he will be unbearable

What are your top tips?

I will be using a K200d + tamron 18 - 250 on a tripod. I might pop a nifty fifty in my pocket as well.

Interesting replies and confirm most of what I was thinking.

This current computer is about 7 years old and made locally by an independant company. It has been upgraded once. I was thinking of going back to them.

What specs would you suggest for the tower?

I would go for a small format desktop system and use the money saved to buy a good flat screen monitor.
What would you class as a good monitor?

How would you 'future proof' such a system?

My current computer is grinding to a halt and needs replacing. So I am trying to work out the pros and cons of both towers/flat screen and laptops. Any thoughts on what is best for viewing and editing photos?

Hope you get sorted soon TT.

Id second the second opinion or at least get another quote. An elederly relative of ours was quoted a price that was double that of a local heating engineer.

Can't you get trap the heat of the the squaddies shovelling ice and snow in your area?

The colour best in your last post but,I think that the rock in the foregound is out of focus and distracting.

Andrew,
It's very grim up here.

I have keep saying this to put off the southern settlers. They keep taking our land, houses and introducing fancy ideas like latte coffee and Waitrose We like our space and freedom to move!

Carl,

Nice photos.

I remember visiting the zoo just before it closed. There were very large snakes that seemed to be squashed into small glass tanks. I am glad the zoo closed.

I like walking down by the river and looking for the carved medieval stones that have been reused in house and garden walls.
