Well, the camera's looking for the point of most contrast - if the lens is sharper in the first place, the camera's going to find the highest contrast quicker.

I'd say that was a duff lens Scott. You would hope that Sigma wouldn't release a lens that was so inferior to a predecessor, so you can use these test shots as evidence of a poor sample. If Sigma (or the shop you bought it from) say it's fine, then you can ask for a refund as it's not up to the job (as demonstrated by your other lens).

Anyway, as suggested, we should have a PU meet in the southern half of the country, and as we seem to have a lot of member to the north and west of London, somewhere in this area would seem to make sense.

Unlocker's suggested Stowe School in Bucks, I blithely threw Oxford out as a potential, I'm sure others have favourite places that they could suggest.

Also, suggestions for a date please! Sundays would be better, certainly for Unlocker, and here's a list of when I could make a meet...

Feeb, we had a meet at St. Albans a couple of years ago, and it would be good to do it again down this way. The Lakes are a bit far for me too.

We have quite a few members in Essex, Herts and Bucks, so if we can find a suitable place that's good for all, then there's no reason why not. Only takes me about 75 minutes to get to Oxford for instance...
