And with the weather as it is, what about your original idea of someone standing still in the street with people moving past them? Should be able to get the shutter speed long enough in the gloom...

I found batteries fine for cleaning the sensor too. I got a power supply for my D, but used it once, when updating the firmware. Luckily, I didn't spend a fortune on the Pentax one.

Yep, updated mine just the other day with no problems.

The K10D RAW files are smaller!

But the transfer rate is slow, and I find the battery doesn't hold it's charge for long, just a week at most, so can easily be dead just when you need it. However, like Matt, I tend to find myself backing up at the end of a day using the mains.

Is that the issue with Marilyn Munro?

You could try SRS Microsystems, people here seem to like them (Chris there should be able to help you). Their website only shows the Divided and Scaled screens for the K10D, but I'm sure an 'original' DS wouldn't be a problem.

That's assuming you're in the UK of course.

Any Pentax dealer should be able to get one in for you, Intro2020 (the distributer in the UK) lists them on their price list.

Are you using spot-metering all the time, or just in this instance? If so, try the 'matrix' metering (or whatever it is on a Pentax ). It may then give less weighting to the highlight than would happen if it happens to be in the spot area.

Yes, the flash did fire, you can see the shadow behind and to the right of the dog's head when you boost brightness and contrast.

The only difference I can see, and I wouldn't have thought it would make that much difference, is that you're getting more of a reflection off the chrome ring on the dog's collar on the dark shot. You could try covering that up and see if you get the same results. The dog's fur is covering it more in the brighter shot.

Seems to me though that a reflection from that wouldn't be bright enough, but you never know...

As I understand it, the camera does all the 'exposing', so it shouldn't be that the camera thinks one thing and the flash another.

Do you get similar results with the built in flash?
