I find the same thing happens with mine, so I tend to use the cabled release if long periods of inactivity are expected...

It's a fundamental change to the whole site, so I doubt that would have been possible. It would have been nice though...

Chris, I've sent this through as a report, asking for it to be rectified. We can hope... I honestly wouldn't know how the timings compare, it seemed a long time, but I couldn't say for sure. I do know that I'd often have to wait for an image to appear.

Just had a look at the 'Users Online' link, and see there are lots of users who are being very quiet at the moment. Can you please let us all know what you think, especially so that:

a) The few of us that are discussing it - some with a positive view of it, and some with a negative view of it - don't feel all alone in our views.

and b) So that we know how you're finding the site.

55 users and guests when I last checked...

I'm finding that threads with a large number of images are taking an extremely long time to open.

So if I look at page 1 or 2 of any of several of the competitions, it's more than a minute before the page even begins to open.

It seems that this response time is roughly proportional to the number of pictures in the page - a thread from 'Your photos' that has several images takes up to about 10 seconds, while one with no images at all opens almost instantly.

I wonder if it's because of the work that the server has to do to do all that resizing?
I noticed that also. Sure hope they fix that.
Just tried it, and it does take a long time. But I think what it's doing is downloading the images from their sources first, rather than after the pages have loaded, as when the page did appear, all the images were visible. Normally the page would open and then the images would download, which I think is better - it seems quicker.

By the way, in Opera, the "Messages" and "Logout" words overlap.
I'm guessing you have a minimum font size of 12 set in your preferences. I couldn't replicate this until I had changed that setting.

Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Fonts > Minimum Font Size

Ah, beg your pardon, no it's the same as before. There's a gallery for uploading pics to, but you can't upload them straight to a message.

Sorry, got the wrong end of your stick.

I thought somebody said that we could now attach images directly to messages, but that appears not to be the case. Am I correct?

G
No you are not.

There's an 'Image' button below the reply box, it uses the same [img] tags as before.

What left hand column? I see no column. I am talking about replies, rather than new posts.

Peter was talking about the dreaded right-hand 'advert' column, the 'my messages' link there ("why is there no title for messages?").

For me the green icon comes on only if new posts arrive while I'm logged in. If I log out and then come back to the forum, any new posts that have been submitted when I was logged out, don't show up as 'green' or 'bold', so it's hard to see new posts.
This worked for me earlier, just after I said I was off to make a cuppa. I closed the browser, re-opened it, and saw that there was a new post (green icon). However, when I just came back, there were none (although the old forum did this too, so it's probably a cookie issue, possibly with this machine because if I look in ay work it tends to be a bit better in this respect).

Having said that, I'm not logging in and out, just closing and re-opening the browser, and have selected the 'remember me' tick box, which definitely seems to be working now.
