I used to have an MZ-5n, and it would work with DA lenses, but as already mentioned, only in P or Tv mode*, there's no aperture control on the body itself.

I sold mine to John McD, who recently resold it for about £35 I think. It did have a faulty flash (didn't pop up, but still fired if you held it up).

* I'm assuming 'P' would work okay, not sure I ever tried it.

I wonder how one becomes a Pro Centre. I would have expected it to require some investment in staff training and holding minimum stocks both of which are a considerable expense to the dealer.
See this thread, my comment then the reply from Mike at Pentax (I don't think he's there any more though...).

This thread has reminded me of that Canon DSLR that was involved in a mishap, the one where the lens had ripped the mount from the camera body. It'll be a while now since it was posted.

Can't find the topic, but there's some pics here. Ouch!

Does anyone ever use these lenses for subjects other than macro (as well as macro)? AF would be relevant then.
Absolutely! I often use my Sigma 105mm for non-macro shots, and the AF comes in very handy then too.

That just tells you which of the 11 focus points the camera's using.

A second issue arises here. If using flash it will enable small apertures and hence lots of depth of field (relatively) so the presence of any mis-focusing will be masked.
I am also a bit puzzled by this statement, we use a lot of different equipment to help us with focusing such as split screens, eyecups and even autofocus so to say using a flash would mask any mis-focusing as a bad thing seems rather strange to me .. or am I getting the wrong end of the stick?
I don't think John was saying it was a bad thing, just that focusing may not be any more accurate. So that the greater depth of field would cover up the fact that the focus point isn't necessarily on the exact point you'd need it if you were using a wider aperture.

Autofocusing macro while handholding is a nightmare, as you can't hold the camera still enough to keep the thing in focus once the AF has locked on. It can be used when tripod mounted.

We all like to do things differently dont we but because I prefer to not use a tripod and use flash is that such a bad thing?
Not at all! I tend to use a handheld + flash approach for most insects (not all, depends what they are and the type of shot I'm taking), but for fungi, flowers etc, I'll nearly always have it tripod mounted, as I'll use natural light more often than not (but perhaps with a bit of fill flash). Usually a polariser too.

You should use what works for you.

Cheers Hefty and John - the tuition side of things is definitely on the up, I'm doing more workshops and the 1-2-1 sessions are increasing too, so fingers crossed that continues.

Well, I did say I'd let you know how I got on...

I used Inky Little Fingers in the end, and they supplied a template, uploading artwork was painless (even though it was about 40Mb in all). First 'pre-flight' check was a failure, as I'd used a large-ish area of pure black, which could be prone to smudging/scuffing whilst the leaflets were being folded. A quick adjustment and re-upload and things were underway again. All took a little longer than I'd originally anticipated, but the leaflets arrived today, and I've got them in a couple of outlets already (including Cameraworld in Chelmsford if anyone's passing ).

A couple of pics:
