My theory of astronomy: Buy anything for a telescope and it will be cloudy for six weeks!

I hope the weather behaves next Tuesday as I'd quite like to get back out to Llyn Brianne. I accidentally deleted the shots I took there just after buying my K-m and I've been trying to find weather as good to take some new ones ever since. There should be water in the spillway after the past few days.

Seen this one elsewhere. Utterly insane.

I think what gets to me is that he seems to be scrambling up the tower without proper grab rails in some areas, just using the tower itself as a climbing frame. I also couldn't care less if it's "easier and faster" to climb without a safety line, it's downright stupid. One slip and they won't have to dig a grave, just fill in the man-shaped hole he left in the ground!

This is my first SLR and my first lens: an ME Super (sadly not now working) and a SMC-M 50mm f/2 lens. I shot my first 35mm roll of film through this camera in 1982. Kodachrome 64, naturally.

K.
I'd be amazed if it can't be fixed. Normally I'd say buy another one but when there's a sentimental attachment it's worth paying to get it sorted.

You may want to keep the best MEs though, film seems to be making a come back on this site, I don't know why (ahem!)
As far as the ME Super is concerned it's probably down to the comparative size. I can fit an ME S, 40mm f2.8 and a couple of extra rolls of film in a coat pocket. Bit tricky doing that with my K-m even with the 35mm prime on!

What they're worth depends on what you're prepared to pay, but those Pentax lenses are worth having. Both have good reputations.

The AF240Z flash will be surprisingly handy on digital assuming it works - if you set it and the camera to "P" then it should offer full automation using the old Program Flash protocol.

You should be able to recover some of your outlay by selling the non-Pentax gear. Olympus OM bodies still seem sought after although the Canon Eos range doesn't seem as popular in my limited experience. You might see £50 from selling them on, more if they have desirable lenses attached.

I managed to get out in the brief sunny spell today, shot a few frames of slide film while walking in the woods around Pen y Garreg dam. Hopefully some of them will work in an artistic sense (trying to do something interesting with the fact that loads of water was coming over the top)!

Very neat - what was it originally intended for?

The Lowepro 1N includes a divider which allows it to carry a couple of shorter Pentax lenses (a 50/55 and 28mm will fit, a 135mm and anything else won't!)

I still think one of the best tricks you can do with a Pentax DSLR is to take an AF160 (tiny auto flash from late 1970s), clip it on, switch the camera to manual and set the aperture/shutter speed the flash expects, then take perfectly exposed shots with gear from thirty years apart!

As I said above, it even manages to use the extra pin to illuminate the flash ready light.

I thought gaffa tape was used for dealing with escaping clothing? It sticks everything else together after all!

I'm in two minds about these things. I might well consider spending the extra £30 at SRS to get the bundle of the (genuine) adapter, set of Eneloops and a charger along with the K-r assuming the offer is still running this time next month. I've no doubt the rechargeable battery is fine once bedded in but the ability to run on plain old AAs in a crisis appeals.

With the K-m I've always kept a fresh pack of Energiser Lithium AAs in the camera bag as I know they won't self-discharge and if my existing set fail in the middle of nowhere I can just slot replacements in.
