There's been a bit of talk recently here on these, and I've heard some info in other spots as well...
I realize that not all lenses work with all converters - at least that's what the things I've heard and read seem to indicate... Sigma, Tamron, Vivitar and others all make them, but they all say diffferent things about them...
I don't mind not having AF - I only use it a little bit anyhow, but I'd like to be able to use the metering on my K10D... Are there any recommendations as to which converter will work with the greatest number of lenses?
I was looking at the shorter teleconverter (1.4X), but recommendations on the 2X are equally welcome...
Thanks;
Jamie

kimbo, if you know where I can get a KA adaptall mount for under £20 I'd be most interested!

I would agree with Mongoose - (slight paraphrase) Photos should never 'look' like they've been modified after pressing the shutter button - post-processing has it's place, to be sure, but, IMO, subtle is definitely the way to go...

vivitar 285, 283 series....every manufacturer should copy.....little battery clips are a godsend when you need a fast battery swap, in the dark.
Are they OK on the K10D voltage wise? Have you tried the remote sensing?

Not sure what you're looking for in a strap, but I ran across this a couple weeks back and have been considering it for myself...

Although designed for scopes, no reason that I can see to prevent them from being just as useful for a camera, although I'd be more inclined to not lave the camera on the tripod while trekking and use a QR plate instead...

I have a Manfrotto tripod, and use a Manfrotto 168 ball head - it's rates as heavy duty (7 kg or 15-16 lbs). My lenses aren't as heavy, I imagine, as the Bigma (I want one of those...) but, using a homemade mounting plate, we have had two 35mm film cameras with 200mm lenses on the ball head at one time with no problems...
Here's one on eBay...

I think that film forced one to think more about the photo before pressing the shutter button, since nobody in my circle of friends could afford to use up film at the rate we might have... But digital lets me play - attempting things just for the fun of trying...
I got in the habit of jottting down my f-stop, shutter speed, lens, etc when using film - exif does a lot of that for me now for individual photos, but I still jot down misc notes, ie location, weather, etc... I shoot 10X as many pictures, but many of them don't stay on the card for more than a few minutes, and I can always look up my notes and/or the exif for the ones I do keep...
I think ChrisA makes a good point when he says that we need to work on our "photo taking ability" rather than concentrate solely on our tweaking abilities on a computer.
(In my case, it would drastically cut down on the fixing that I need to do later...)

Would I be correct then in assuming that if a couple miillimetres difference in filter width vignettes the picture, then I'm probably too wide to avoid the variable polarization issues you're talking about...?
(Since the thin ones (5mm) are double the money of the thick ones (7mm) with the same coatings...)

Trip across the Atlantic? I've always wanted to...
Afford it? Not a chance... I spent all my 'mad' money on my K10D...
I'll meet the podcast notion... and raise it to a videoblog... or audio with lots of photos (getting photos shouldn't be a problem )
