Ok, i'm thinking of getting hold of a ringflash for portrait stuff. Ive seen the various tips & hints online that suggest buying mega-bucks pro kit with truck battery powerpacks etc...hmnn, just a tad out of my league!
However, i'm not convinced by the £25 EBay 'adaptors' either. My question, i guess, is this, are the dedicated/compatible RingFlashes worth it for simple home/outdoor portrait work?
I love the fashiony look of the lights and would really fancy a go at this. Plus, looks good for macro/close-up work too.
Waddya reckon?
Not answering your question, I have an Orbis - 160 quid but excellent. Bit of a faff to manipulate but works on any camera I have.

Do I attempt it myself or get a professional to do it (and if so which professional)?
Buy an Arctic Butterfly. Best 50 quid I ever spent.

Coming back from holidays I popped into Paris and saw what new exhibitions were on. The Musée d'Orsay has a 2 room exhibition of the photography of Peter H Emerson. Most of the photos were turn of the century (the one before last) - an excellent view of how advanced black and white photography was back in the 1890's. It was exceptional to see how Emersons compositional style changed over two decades.

To accompany the exhibition, they were selling pinhole cameras that exposed bromide paper and it came with all the chemicals that are needed to do a positive developing. At 36€ not cheap.

I thoroughly recommend that if you are going past, you pop in and give it a look.

You're not worried about the fact that the council are spuriously making laws up to serve their own purposes?
If I could mark this as helpful/useful/insightful I would - this statement hits the nail squarely on the head.

Seems pretty good, it's an SFXn and it comes with the databack. Dunno 'bout the drainpipe on the front.

Dear Pentax,

Please can you seriously consider producing a "performance" compact.

/snip/

Large compact sensor (1/7" or even better 1/6.3")

That's kind of small - 1/7" is a diagonal of 3mm - barely a webcam sensor.

Its in sensor speak rather than precise measurement. It stems back to vacuum tubes.

What I did miss was the 1. bit, so should have read - 1/1.7" and 1/1.63" Sorry for the confusion.
Thanks for the clarification. I have a GX100 - 1/1.75 - great in B&W, not much else - too noisy at 25M pixels per cm^2. The GF-1 has taken its place.

As others have said - too many other mfrs have done a brilliant job in this area - Pentax entering it would be a fools errand.

Nice and sharp and well angled, Colin. Square crop, do you think?
It's a very interesting capture, but I'm afraid it doesn't look all that sharp to me.
