Just tried out my new K30 too. A few "New camera excitement shots" and wow! really glad I traded the K20 which I liked a great deal.

My usual target for any lens/camera combination is a TV aerial some 50 yards away. Handheld with a DA 300* at a shutter speed of 320 and F14 it was very sharp and even when very heavily cropped the hexagonal bolt heads are spot on. Its easily on par with my K5 and maybe even the AF is faster but it could be just my wishful thinking. One big thing although not affecting IQ or anything else though is with the lack of camera body to the left of the screen, there's no contact and therefore no grease getting on the screen.

Woohoo happy daze!!!

My K30 arrived at 0830 this morning and the K20 part exchange was collected. SRS triumphed again, very well organised and much appreciated. Spare battery charged and Firmware updated, Pentax battery in the charger and cashback form printed off.

First impression (just by firing off a couple of frames in the lounge)Sounds like a K10 but with steroids, fits the hand very well and I like the menus. Wish it had a swivel screen but what the heck! Looking forward to the daylight hours tomorrow.

Ken, I agree with your comment but on the plus side it does indicate to everyone just how efficient SRS are. I dropped in on them a couple of weeks ago to collect an X5, their personal touch is well up to speed.

I had a K10 and a K20 which were the same bodies. MAK has the K10 now as I bought a K5. Now, as Smeggy points out the two are so different I hardly ever take them both out together. The K20 is a nice piece of kit but the ergonomics differ between the two bodies. I recently bought an X5 just for a point and shoot jobbie. I could be easily persuaded to upgrade the K20 to the K30 though.

Good work there HG. A few interesting characters, I like the old boy with the shooting stick. A very thinly veiled disguise too. Spider`s boots are a work of art

Gwyn, my bogels nearly jangled at hearing that from your husband.

Where can we go now?

Looks good as a psuedo DSLR and the handling is very good. The ergonomics have been well sorted with all the buttons just right. It`s not light and balances very well. The tilting screen is something I always thought unnecessary, not now though, it`s a revolution to observing. I really like having it. I bought it to throw in my works kit bag just so I have a Pentax camera with me.

The mechanical zoom is a bit on the fast side, I would prefer it to be a little slower than it is. It`s a bit in, out, oops to far try again oops not far enough and it`s not refined either. Sounds and feels like a mobile phone vibrating. In Manual mode changing shutter speed is fine but aperture only ever has two options.

I Q is fair and acceptable for a £200 camera, works very well in the auto modes the optical zoom is excellent throughout, digital zoom is very good up to a point but I would not expect to take it to the full extent without a quality compromise.

Be interesting to hear from other users.
