I have always wanted to be a music photographer since I got to the front of a U2 gig at Wembley stadium in 1987, finding myself crushed against the barrier I noticed all the photographers waiting fro U2 to come out with loads of room around them. I thought thats a good way to see bands!!!

Unfortunately I did nothing about it until Jan 2008. Since then I have shot for various music websites who have got me access to gigs & festivals to build up my portfolio. I now have my images represented by www.musicpitures.com which gets me access as a freelance, to gigs & festivals. I have sold a few images from their & have built up relationships with various bands & their PR companies which hopefully will lead to some promo work. I am currently going through my extensive library from the last year for further images to upload to the agency. I am looking at this as a long term investment which hopefully will pay for many years to come...

I have also had some of my celebrity shots accepted by some of the more... ahem... sleazier side of photography, the dark side known as the paps agencies, but needs must etc.... I have also been offered a few assignments by the agencies too.

All 5 images are mine, if you click on them they should enlarge, only 500 pixels on long edge to keep loading time down on site.

Thanks for all your comments, still buzzing!!!

Got a pass for Ocean Colour Scene on saturday night & they have used some of my images on the official site, really pleased with myself

Lighting was terrible with 4 red spot lights used throughout so had to B & W some, but still pleased with them.

Plus, no restrictions on their use, full copyright remained with the photog. Those were the days. I stopped covering live gigs when the restrictions started to come in.

I don't know how anyone can make a living from it these days with all the competition climbing all over one another and flogging their work for peanuts. I guess I'm just getting soft in my old age
I never sign away my copyright to any band, I am under strict instruction from my editor, they don't let us have the rights to their music they don't get the rights to our pics. Some of the photography agreements are unbelievable in what they want from you. I have had to walk away a few times from shoots due to stupid contracts. Bands are slowly realising that if they want exposure then they have to give photographers a break. Scandinavian press have decided they will tell their readers why they have no photos from a current touring artists if right grabs contracts are issued. I think lately Britney Spears has suffered with very negaitive press there.

The competition up here in the North isn't so bad compared to down South. Just got back from a weekend at Bingley Music Live & had a great time along with some cool images. Your right though about people giving their work away for free, which is very frustrating...
