Sorry...didnīt finish last post...

Once my K-50 sells on ebay I am intending to buy a 4/3īs camera as my second/back up camera, and top of my list are teh Panasonic G6 and the Olympus OMD-m 5.

This will give me I hope the choice to take a more walk about style camera and to keep the K-3 for more specific photography as the need arises.

Hi,

I take the point that a point and shoot isnīt a DSLR, my moan is that you would expect (well I would) that a top end product of whatever item you are buying will have the basic quality/results of the lower priced entry level items as a given, and then above that you can do all the extra settings & software stuff (that honestly holds no interest for me, I like taking photos, donīt mind doing basic stuff on pc, but I get enough jip from the Mrs for the time spent taking pics without the extra grief of me spending hours on the pc fixing my shots from my expensive camera).

A simple comparison for me would be a top of the range super gold knife costing 1 thousand pounds...looks totally amazing and everyone that is in the know appreciates you have a quality knife...but hold on....after each time you use it you have to spend hours resharpening or next time you use it it simply wonīt cut...meanwhile the guy next door has a 40 quid knife that is razor sharp for months of use..simplistic I know... but I am playing devils advocate here as I feel the manufacturers should provide basic quality & performance in all tools.

I have in all honesty taken some Ok pictures with the K-3, some failry good portraits (not typical studio stuff, but spur of the moment live portraits) and some OK landscapes.

I will persevere and try all the differant suggestions, might even start using the tripod I bought that so far has lived in the boot of the car, I like being mobile rather than looking for a specific shot and planning best light, best time and taking maybe 5 or 6 attempts to get that perfect shot.

I have more new glass on the way (wife is gonna kill me!!!) and am still completely enthusiastic over Pentax products, but once my K-50 sells on ebay this week, I

I agree, a DSLR isn't a snapshot camera. But I see so many people with [other brand] DSLRs treating them like they are...

I don't think you can / should look to a DSLR to be a great straight out of camera choice any more. It's the equivalent to the flat profiles you get out of modern video cameras etc. .
I beg to differ Richard. To be sure the point of a DSLR isn't just to take snapshots but there is no reason why it shouldn't have some decent auto/jpeg settings that do as good a job as the point and shoot jobbies do. If the camera manufacturer can't provide that basic facility in an upmarket body they deserve to fail.

By all means have the flat profiles and raw capabilities for those who want them, when they want them, but there's no need to restrict the usability of a fine camera. Snapshots have their place but even if a DSLR is unnecessarily expensive, heavy and bulky for that purpose it should still be able to do the job.
That is exactly my point.
I am relatively new ot DSLR cameras, but used Film SLRīs for many years until lured away by Olympus to digital, and have used various point & shoot & bridge cameras for years.
I used to think it was a good result if I got 15-20 good images out of a roll of 36, but then you took more time and made sure the settings were OK (which was a learning curve).
I honestly feel that the DSLR market will shrivel away if the cameras arenīt useable by pretty much anyone (at the simplest level, say on Auto), Iīm fairly sure that canon & Nikon models are fairly user friendly, but maybe thatīs just because most of my friends are at the same level as me (EOS700 & D5300).

Total downer though when the wifeīs handy and NX3000 outperforms my K-3 with a 300 quid lens attached...and I took almost 100 images at various speeds, ISOīs & aperture..

Will try removing the settings suggested, but this begs the question as to why these settings are there if they are complete guff....

Wasnīt the anti alias one of the K3 major selling points?

Confused...but new glass on the way so maybe that will be the answer to my prayers.....

I hope so as have just purchased one from SRS via Ebay.
Hopefully some good glass like this will help me iron out some issues. or confirm that I am in fact the issue with my photography!!!!
Any reports on this lenses performance?
Good or bad greatly appreciated....while I wait for my new toy...

I have got some OKish lenses for my K3, but even on auto my wife`s Samsung NX3000 consistently provides better photos, especially in low light (although somewhat garish colouration in auto mode).
The final humbling came when I saw her pics taken from her S5 of a nice sunset that were way clearer than my K3, even after I switched it to Auto....(I had over 100 pics taken at different settings, she had 2)
I have tried various pentax 7 sigma lenses but have yet to take a genuinely good picture on my K3.
Is it possible I have a dud camera.
I was looking at images I took with a bridge and compact cameras, and all of them look better than my K3, even my K50 looks better...
Mind you my K50 doesn`t look any better than my LUmix camera.....
Maybe I have made a major mistake with Pentax?

Certainly looks interesting and much more presentable than the K-S1.

I used to ponder the moveable screen when I was choosing between Nikon & pentax but felt that build quality and the feel of the camera in your hand were better indicators.
Have never had a situation yet where I have missed an articulated rear screen.

Iīm not planning on upgrading for a couple of years from the K-3 hopefully all these new trends will be standard by then or history.

I have found the Pentax software suite to be really hard to use and am looking at another solution.
Does anyone have a strong opinion on one pareticular software over another?
I am looking for mid range solution around the 100 quid mark at most.
