yes bouncing would be worth a try but with the strobe behind a black flagging material.
This should diffuse and not make too big a highlight.

I've had the 17-50mm foe some time and despite -10 adjustments on my K7, F2.8 just isn't sharp. I really need to get it calibrated... but need the lens with some regularity.
Do any of you good folk have any experience?

When you say manually focus it, does that make any difference? Because the AF looks correct in the view finder and isn't - surely manually focusing will be the same misleading image??
