Bought the K7 from Jacobs and so far I love it!!! It focuses in low light like a dream!! I've been roped in to do a friends wedding pics tomorrow and I feel confident because this camera is amazing.
Strangely, the very same day I bought it, my two year old son found his way into my office and thought he would play with my k10. All I heard was a very loud bang in the hallway as he had thrown it off the landing. It fell a good 12 ft. Luckily it didn't have a lens on it. I picked it up and switched it on and I can't see a problem!!
Wish me luck tomorrow at Rowton Castle, Shrewsbury. Wedding starts at 3.30, I have the 540 with me, a Tamron 17-50 and a sigma 10-20 and a Kaiser video light! Let battle commence.

Comment by Bluewhistle2 posted on did I hear about Pentax bringing out a full-frame SLR? at 01/12/2009 - 02:44
bought the Tamron 17-50mm... first impressions, a little bit plasticky. Second impressions - wide open has absolutely creamy bokeh!!.
Done some tests and the lens looks perfectly calibrated to my K10. I used the focus test sheet from the "internet" and all looks good. Eyes very tired today (Graphic Designer) so the sharpness looks good at F2.8 I think; the clarity and punch are certainly great. Will test further on diff apertures but so far I feel I have a winner.

The plan so far is to get the tamron for my k10.
To send my Pentax 80-320 off for repair and to wait until next year. The K20 sounds like a runner too but soemthing is dragging me towards the KX... cheaper, and its getting great reviews. A bit like my istd, 600 quid and wonderful for its time.
The AF adjustment might be invaluable for the Tamron 17-50.
Thanks gang!!

Pentax 17-70 f/4 looks like an option apart from the aperture. Need more light and the trade off between 70mm and extra drop focus created by the tele or 50 and the extra drop focus created by the F2.8.
Ice... I considered the K20 as a nice cheap option. But again, though it has a really good rep, I feel the K7 or even the Kx would be a smarter investment.
I'm thinking of getting the Tamron lens.... then wait until next year and see how cheap the K7 is! Its all about cost if it wasn't I would get a hassleblad and a K7... and more glass than I'd know what to do with.
Someone mentioned that the k7 may have a square sensor (pre-release speculation ) that would have suited me down to the ground as its heartbreaking cropping an image sometimes when you only need a square pic.
I entered the win a Pentax K7 with a 100 words comp and had my heart set on it. Wrote a poem of sorts (prose) never won!! But a couple of months ago I won £500 in a design a christmas card comp (illustration). They still haven't paid me but that amount is my softener as far as okaying the purchases!
Anyone any idea when the K7 will come down in price... based on the K20 etc??

I own the wonderful Pentax AF-540 FGZ P-TTL - a flash gun I despised until I figured how to use it!!
Thanks Mattmatic and you guide.
Unfortunately, I think it has a little grit stuck in the tilt mechanism and consequently there is what sounds like a rattling screw - though it could be grit (how it would get 'in" I don't know?).
Has anyone ever opened the head up? Is it recommended? Its out of warranty and I don't want to be without it while a repair department have it sitting in their queue. It works fine apart from the rattle!
Thanks

I'm having a nightmare right now with the lens calibration of the Tamron 17-50!! It is wildly front focusing. I may have to use my horrible Sigma 18-50 ex... its so inconsistant.
