Well done, Clare. They allow you to upload 100 photos. After that, you need to open a Pro account (not as grand as it sounds

The easiest way is to upload photos onto a free photo handling site like Photobucket or Flickr. I don't know about Photobucket, but Flickr limits the uploads but for a small amount and you can then upload as many photos as you want. Various settings allow you to limit who sees them.
It's an excellent way of storing and saving photos. Tranferring them to here or elsewhere is a doddle

Well worth doing and (hopefully) no risk of losing them ....

Don't be nervous - remember even the really good photographers had to start somewhere !

Welcome, Clare.
It's a wonderful forum - I've learnt heaps since I joined. I must admit I was very nervous at first, but everyone has been so kind and helpful and I feel much more at ease !
And there are some magnificent photos !

Try putting some of your photos in the Your Photos section (bottom group on the main page). You'll find you'll get more detailed appraisals of your photos and it's the best place to pick up tips
The other advantage is that you can put them in a larger format which will show them off better !

What a breathtaking set of photos .....
I'm with Northgrain on the Falcon Crag shot. It made me think of a painting.
I've never seen Parhelic Circle - what a stunning effect, and I like the different PP effects you have achieved with it.

Good cropping in No. 1 and the last one is a superb composition with muted colours.

Nice reflection in No. 1.
The expressions on the faces in No. 4 made me laugh !
You have caught a nice off-guard expression in No. 6.

Your Black & White video is superb, Shaun. It's a real inspiration for anyone wanting ideas and inspiration in b/w and an excellent vehicle for your work. It makes an excellent invitation to your website.

Like anything on internet, you need to have the right buzzwords to put you near the top of the searches. So at present you have your name and "photography" - but you could consider putting something from the theme in the title of each video, i.e. "Stuart Wilson Black & White photography".
Having said that, I've just seen the one with Lake District in the title !

I think putting any text on the photos would be distracting and for me, your website link just below is there to click on should anyone want to look at more.

Regarding the music : I liked it (what is it ?). If people don't like the music, they can surely turn the sound down on their computers ! I do this frequently if I don't like what I hear. I don't think it's necessary to add any sort of damping facility.

In answer to your original question : Yes, I think it's an excellent medium for advertising for people that use Youtube for searches. Whether it's the best way or not, I don't know.

I hadn't really thought about the reportage angle - you're right.
Funnily enough, I crossed the river this morning and noticed that there is considerably more water today, so I'll go back to the same spot and see how it looks.

The source of the Loire is down in the mountains west of Lyon and as they have had exceptional rain and flooding down there, it was bound to eventually end up increasing the water level in the river.
However, it's still very low for this time of year.

I now understand the difference between a shot showing an event and one that makes an interesting photograph (if you know what I mean).

Cloning out unwanted clutter does make a difference, just as cropping correctly can.

I really do appreciate the comments, for which many thanks. There's so much more to producing a good shot than seeing something that looks nice or interesting to the eye and actually what comes out in a photograph.

Well, I thought there was a little too much detail ......... but .....
That certainly gives food for thought. I shall look at Gursky's photos more closely - many thanks for the steer, Chris
