I like the first flower image, especially the rough background textures.

The only caveat is that cameras like to be used, so it would be a good idea to regularly exercise it...I wouldn't just keep it in a cupboard doing nothing.
Thanks John, I will keep this in mind.

AndrewH: Thanks for sharing your views on this matter! I have decided to keep the K20D. Even though I for the time being primarily want to pursue film photography, it is nice to also have a high quality Pentax DSLR system (with a back up camera body).

Best regards

I believe this phenomenon is not restricted only to British wives

about £250-£300 to convert, a company called ACS (Advanced Camera Services) seem to be the prefered choice in uk
Thank you for supplying this information!

Last update on my dilemma:I am keeping the K20D. I will not get much money from selling it, and like Steve pointed out above, it is quite handy to have a back-up DSLR in ones possesion.

Thank you all for your help!

So if your K-5 develops a problem, I fail to see where you step back to? I think my own collection would have to be much greater before getting rid of a very serviceable camera.

I started with a K-r, then got a K-5. Bought an MX-1 for travel. Considering an old 35mm film jobbie for kicks and might set up a dark room for it.

I would be in a similar situation but wouldn't dream of getting rid of the K-r because it would be my most important camera in the event of a K-5 malfunction.
Thanks for your input Steve! I need to think about the things you highlight.

have you thought about conversion to an IR camera?
The though has crossed my mind, but I have come the conclusion that I would rather explore IR with my Pentax 67ii medium format film camera.

BTW: Just out of interest, do you know the how much an IR conversion of a Pentax DSLR costs?

Thanks for providing price estimates for my K20D!

Bjorn. "Is there any point in keeping it?" It depends if you are a collector of redundant things or a practical use it or lose it person. Personally as I have bought new I have sold on my Z1p, 645, *istD, K10, K7, and K5. I still have my K5iis, and now my K3. I keep one as a back up and IF and WHEN I move up then the K5iis will go.
I see hogboy has the same two cameras as me. Does he sell up and move on? or does he have a collection?.
SO, which are you? It's make your mind up time.
CHEERS Vic.
Well, I myself am a collector. But I try to work against this trait by selling off things I do not use, (even if it hurts sometimes). The K20D has served me well, and is in many ways a fantastic camera, but the sensor has IMHO become outdated. The K5 16mp Sony sensor is so much better in every way. I will be selling off the K20D.

I think you have answered your own question Bjorn. It doesn't sound like the K20D will be getting any use with your new setup so I would sell it and use the cash to offset a small portion of the cost of something you will use I have a K7 which doesn't even have a battery in at the moment and have toyed with the idea of having it converted for IR but eyesight problems have put me off spending any more money on kit.
Thanks Stan! I must also say that it is sad to hear about your eyesight problems, I hope this does not influence negatively your photographic activity.

All the best

I currently have two Pentax DSLRs, a K20D and a K5. The K-5 has been used exclusively for low light work, mostly northern lights photography. The K20D together with a Voigtlander 40mm prime has been my "small" bring everywhere set-up, also for traveling abroad. Even with a small prime, the K20D is rather large and heavy, so I recently I purchased a Sigma DP2 Merrill that will be my new "bring everywhere camera".

My new set up will include the Pentax 67ii system for serious landscape shooting, the Sigma Merrill as an everyday camera for anything static (non-moving) photography in good light, and the K-5 for low light situations.

The K20D has become redundant, is there any point in keeping it? I am trying not to be sentimental about my equipment, I would like to sell equipment that does not get any use. What kind of price can I hope to get for the K20D + unused DA 18-55mm WR (16.500 shutter accentuations, very good cosmetic condition) ?

Hoping for some good advice!

I have never been into macro photography myself, but I am very impressed with the quality of these images. Thank you for sharing!
