It's a fascinating topic..i'd like to learn more about IR photography and conversions...could be a good subject for an article maybe? Thanks Bjorn for your link...very useful.

Given the increasing interest in this subject I can't understand why established Pentax service centres aren't offering IR conversions or even why Pentax isn't selling the cameras new already converted with normal 2 year warranty etc.
If fact there are two very good articles written by Richard Gadd on the subject here:

A very nice set! The images that have the strongest impact on me are number 4 and 5.

There were I believe four lenses in stock for this price some hours before I posted this message. Now it seems they are all gone Sorry! Might be worth checking Amazon regularly, there could still be some good offers to be had.

I know Pentax get's ruled out of most pro conversations simply because they don't have a FF offering. Whether that is fair is another story, but it does happen unfortunately, which is ironic given Pentax off MF that steps it up again to a higher level.
I see a lot of praise for the Fuji system on many forums these days. Even "pros" seems to endorse Fuji, alhough Fuji does not have full frame cameras, "only" APS-C cameras and lenses. Fuji reputedly has very good lenses, fast and well made, that are very expensive. Could it be that the lenses are the main asset to the Fuji system? Or maybe in combination with the x-trans sensor? Anyhow, there does not seem to be a similar craving for full frame amongst Fuji users that there is in the Pentax camp. At least that is my very generalised impression.

I have the M28mm f2.8 version II, which is identical to the A28mm f2.8 in its optical construction. It is a nice lens, tiny, good colours and quite sharp. But - I never use it. I also have a K28mm f3.5 that I use a lot. For landscapes especially, the K28mm f3.5 is IMHO outstanding. Many people disregard the DA 18-55, but I like it very much (I have the WR version). Stopped down to f8 the lens performs very well across the whole zoom range. Some years ago I had a mint version of the A24mm f2.8. This is a very well regarded lens, but when I compared it to the DA18-55mm WR, I realised that the latter performed much much better on DSLR that the old A24 did. So I eventually sold the A24mm f2.8. My advice would be to stick to the DA18-55 and also see if you can find a K28mm f3.5.

Kodak Aerochrome was discontinued by Kodak many years ago. Having done some googling it appears that Lomography has developed a film with false colours based on Kodak Aerochrome, although I am not sure that its an infrared film as such. The film is developed in a regular E41 process, so it can be developed anywhere. So if film is an option, I guess it could be worth a try?

There used to be a colour infrared film called Kodak Aerochrome. This film was developed and used by the American Airforce mainly for surveilance. Here is an example of how Kodak Aerochrome looks like:

This is not what OP asked for, but could maybe serve as an inspiration?
